Have just had a walk into town and added another couple of pounds to my total.

I have bought todays (job) papers (72p), a TV guide (47p...that's gone up over the years!), a couple of onions (35p) and then I popped into the health food shop who do a 'weigh and save' kind of thing with just about anything you can think of! I got a bag of dried sage (to make some stuffing, although think I have enough for stuffing for a year) for 25p and a bag of sesame seeds for 70p. A total of £2.49.

I'm going to attempt these http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/11011/carrot-and-sesame-burgers as have a lot of carrots to use. I don't have tahini, but will try and make something similar with the seeds!
    Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100
  • I'm not doing as well as I had hoped. It looks okay figure wise and I still have £72 to last me until the 20th. But Mr FH has spent on frivolous items out of his own money which was supposed to be being used for the credit card this month.

For example, I phoned him this morning and said that I had forgotten to take anything out of the freezer for tea. He replies "oh we'll think about it later" which actually means he'll go to shop and spend unnecessarily

Mr FH needs to be offshore again so I can get myself organised :rotfl:
    Need to start again :o
  • I have just been to Mr M's for some fruit, veg and fish ( the fish is smoked cod and I am doing it in creme fraiche with chives) I have spent another £9.95.
GemmaBuckle I read that you have bought a sack of potatoes, if you put an apple in the sack it is supposed to stop the potatoes from sprouting, I haven't tried this myself as we don't buy large amounts of potatoes, might be worth a try.

    Hya all

Today looks like being a complete NSD, whereas yesterday was a GC NSD only, as DH had to buy a new rucksack for DS2 to hold all his year 12 folders, packed lunch (plus snacks and injection kit - he is diabetic) as well as a few bottles of water...still don't think the new one is big enough! May have to get yet another one...we'll see.

As DS1 is not having tea with us tonight, we are having things he doesn't like: sweetcorn and potatoes from our garden with salmon (DS1 likes this and will moan at missing it!).

Defrosted the freezer yesterday and have organised all the contents ie having the same types of things together: bread/pastry; meats; fish; vegetables; icecreams; pre-cooked food. Now all I have to do is type all the contents into our shiny new computer.

I used to use a word document, but I plan on creating a spreadsheet this time so I can sort the contents by either what or where! Don't think I will do it today as I am still recovering from having a gastroscopy this morning...I need to lie down!

Talk again...must update the signature first

I went to Lidl today and only spent £24.29 :j, only I didn't actually need anything other than half price bananas :o. This sums up my problem entirely, I just can't resist 'bargains'. I also went to Asda on Monday (for boys PE shorts - they hadn't got any) and spent £36 mostly on household stuff that was on offer but not needed. I have to break this habit before it breaks my budget.

I have advanced to reading the various meal planning threads and have a clearer idea of how it could work for us. I just need to sit down and actually vaguely make a plan. And to find some work to do so I don't kill time in the supermarket.

I also have lots of pears and apples just about ripe - not eaters though and rather blotchy this year, plus quite a few quince so I need to do some research into what to do with those.

    Evening all

Well, I popped into get some sugar on the way to the hospital this morning -and was good :A:rotfl:and only got 3kg sugar and 2lt milk(Im a tea belly :p)..so another spend of €3.05 to add to my total.

My mum is a superstar :D-I got her a tefal jam maker here (€50 instead of nearly £100 in Lakeland) -Im taking it her back at xmas -anyway when I mentioned the 26lb of plums -mum told me to use the machine (it didn't cross my mind ) -so I got it out of the attic and now have quite a lot of plum jam -I know its smaller batches -but Im not up to standing over the heat at the moment..and its just a case of throw the plums, sugar and water into the machine and switch on ;)so I have enough sugar for 1 more batch to go in tonight and then Im going to put the rest of the plums in on the "juice extraction" setting and fridge it until I get some more sugar on Friday (and then turn it into jelly)

My spending is going to have to go up this month (bah humbug) -as I'm looking at a possible 3 week stay in hospital -up to 1 week pre-op and then 2 week recovery ..so Im going to get plenty of meals made for the freezer for hubby (and hopefully some for when I get out) -hubby reckons he can fend for himself -but I know it will be chees n crispreads, gyros, pot noodles and the like -so Im getting organised -then I know he is eating well and that the budget isn't going to get a beating-so what I spend this month I will more than save in teh month Im away... ;). Just waiting for them to ring with my appointment -so hopefully it won't be before Im organised...
anyway -enough waffle..hope everyone is well:D

Everyone hush now... :Aaah-aah-aah:A (this is a heavenly choir, in case you're wondering).

Today was a No Spend Day.
  • NSD for me today.....went for a lovely walk at lunchtime with hubby and bypassed the shops! (we had already eaten lunch in office)

So that was good, had some HM snacks when I got home with kids

Wednesdays are an easy night for me no after school activities so am going to make rissotto later and have a nice g&t got some ice out of freezer

Also, as I had found a box of oats doing my stock take aiming to use stuff out of cupboards where possible, I found a recipe for granola and thought I would do some of that with the dried fruit and nuts in my cupboard - also found a bottle with some vanilla syrup (needed vanilla essence and honey so this was my substitute and have some cinamon dusted dired cranberries lurking in a cupboard (half a bag) plus half a bag of pecans and an ounce of roasted seeds. So I dint follow the recipe at all and didnt buy anything I just followed it for the syrup/oil and oats amount and just tested it - its yummy scrumptious!!

Will check in again later and say Hi when kids are in bed
    Sep GC - £465/£400:rolleyes: Oct GC - £401/400 ;) Nov GC - £ 291.32/400
