Another £8.94 for me - half of which I probably could have lived without
  • 2 NSD in a row and should be the same tomorrow.
Fridge and store cupboard really emptying out now.

Had friends round to night so quickly made a chocolate cake and topped it with some cooking chocolate I have had in the cupboard for at least a year-it was fine.

Have been invite to MIL on Sunday which saves a meal

Just a quick update: went to Aldi and spent £12.11, then to the newsagent to buy the Radio Times (£1.10, and I count the RT as part of my 'grocery budget' as I normally would buy it at the supermarket with the rest of the stuff, except Aldi doesn't do papers and magazines).

    £199.35 left in the pot...

    :)
  • Still doing OK - so far this month I've spent £90.19 of my £150 budget but got some really good buys from that. £4 went on a 12.5kg sack of potatoes straight from the farm. They're going in the cold dark cupboard under our stairs so should keep fine. Felt a bit guilty about buying a jar of curry sauce yesterday as I have the ingredients in the cupboard to make my own, but I've never tried the recipe before and by the time we got back from various errands it was almost 9pm so I was a bit tired! I only used half the jar so I've put the rest in a tub and frozen it. Does anybody know if it's OK to do this?
Also got some great whoopsies last night - loaf of bread for 30p, garlic baguette for 75p and 5 ciabatta for 24p. All in the freezer for toasties etc.
Hope everybody's having a good day!

  • they had a huge block of Pilgrims vintage cheddar or a name to that effect in there. Weighed over 1.3kg and was being sold for £6.16. It said half price on the label as was still packeged for the deli but even at half price i think its a bargain. To be honest i have no idea what im going to do with it, suppose i can freeze it? Hope so cos it wont get ate straight away.

Slowandsteady:Perhaps you could grate it and freeze in portion size bags.
It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!

sounds like a good bargain, slowandsteady, I usually have at least one tub or bag of grated cheese in my freezer (buy it on offer), its so handy for cooking; you can freeze it in a block or the small packs as you would normally buy, but its usually too crumbly to slice, not so good for sarnies! ;)

edited to add, if you freeze it in bags its quite easy to separate, just tap the bag against the worktop and you can take out as much as you need
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • Good day all, Thanks Mrs Money Penny, rosieben and Highland fling regarding my exceptional amount of cheese! Will chop it up later and will freeze it as i got caught up yesterday and didnt end up doing it.

Hoping for a NSD today as a) i have no space anywhere b)i dont need anything c) i'll have no money left!

am going to take dd for a stroll in her pram. Was thinking i might walk the whole mile and a half into town and burn some calories. But im leaning towards going for a drive to the World Famous Bury Market as isnt too far and i love a nosy round in the fish and meat hall (will not spend, will not spend)

Either way not going to waste such a lovely sunny day staying indoors!

    Hi everyone

Trying hard but didn't manage to stick to list.

Went to Lidl today to get some provisions and spent a grand total of £9.09 on corn on cob, cordial, chopped toms, olive oil, foxs crunch creams, potatoes, utterly butterly and Staropramen. Most of this stuff wasn't on list - ah well! Still need to get other stuff, which I'll get from Aldi on way home tonight.
