Spent £76.90 of my total today but I did get 2 X 1.1KG mince and 800g pork chops for £10. (Not from a butchers I'm afraid - it was raining heavily and I couldn't face the walk)
I have split one of the packs into two packs of 550g and froze it. The other - I made up 7 ready meals for the kids of mince and penne for DH to give them while I am out. have also prepared him a list of lunch/snack meals they can be given while I'm at work.
I'm going to make up a batch of macaroni cheese tomorrow - again around 6-7 packs - my days of buying ready meals are over.
I've also drawn up a list of family evening meals so just need to put a date by each one then DH's first question when I walk in from work WON'T BE "what's for dinner tonight?"
Feeling pretty positive about the challenge. told DH that we'd spent £800 plus on food in August and he was horriffied so I think he's on board.
I know £500 is a big budget but hopefully we'll have it down below £400 by then end of the year.
Thanks for your support everyone - here's to a warm sunny weekend

I would like to be put down for £100 again in September, please Mrs. Mcawber. I have already told Mr. Fire Fox we had beasties in some oats and the freezer needs defrosting so we need to eat stuff up. He then declared he was having bacon sarnies for dinner (none in) and, if not, a takeaway.

Mr. Fire Fox did settle in the end for stir fry king prawns, Sharwoods sauce (20p short dated), three week old pak choi, half an over-ripe pineapple that I almost chucked, a red onion served
with egg fried rice (takeaway leftovers frozen). :T Possibly eggs tomorrow as I bought fifteen last time, and roast lamb and Yorkshire puddings on Sunday.

Upsy Daisy: sounds like you are off to a flying start!!

You're right Rosieben - its just that I know what I am like - easily tempted!

Upsydaisy - yet another "duh" moment - nevre thought about mixing the ince with the pasta as a "ready meal" and then freezing - have always frozen just the mince. Your way is much easier - thanks.

    Good luck everyone.

I've added another £15 onto my spend making £88/£250 so far. I have a horrible cold and wanted comfort food not cooking last night so ordered Pizza Hut. :o

On the plus side, my freezer is nearly full thanks to a delivery of meat from my folks (Lamb/mutton, fish caught by my dad and venison burgers!!) so I shouldn't need to do a lot of expensive shopping. I'm heading to Aldi on Tuesday for Septembers Super Six as if they're the same as in this thread then I can make some yummy wintery soups!!

    Thanks for the tip-off.

Next to nothing there I'd use though :( Never use a full pack of leeks before they start to turn (only use then instead of/alongside onion, as we don't like the taste as a side veg), and don't eat oranges or kiwi or corn on the cob (which is what I assume it means). So about the only thing of any use to me is the spuds, depending on the bag size..... and I don't actually use more than 4 or 5 kg in an entire month, so it doesn't look like much of a saving for me in September (hasn't been in August either, as I'm the only person will eat salad more than once a week - and we don't eat the "exotic" fruits either)
