So would this point to the ability of the Nat West to use the right of `set off` in this case?? or am I too suspicious.(as usual):confused:

If you are bankrupt then RBS/Natwest could not set off previous accounts with new funds post bankruptcy. They would be able to do this otherwise.

No, barclays connect is a full debit card with no restrictions.

    It depends on the card.

If it has no cheque guarantee symbol on it it is supposed to get the terminal to call for authorisation each time, as you are not meant to be able to go overdrawn with one.

I didn't think you were meant to go overdrawn (or over your overdraught limit) with any debit card.

It depends on the card type, some do let you go into the red as they dont always check your balance. But certain Visa Debit card including the Barclays Connect with no cheque guarantee symbol is supposed to seek authorisation on every transaction stopping you going overdrawn by even 1p.

Just to add - I used my paypal visa card for Tesco shopping online no probs., but the card was not accepted for Tesco Direct online. The same happened for an Open Uni. online transaction - the administrator there could not understand why it would not go through. I don't think you can use it to pay for some services like insurance either, according to a friend.
