  • Hugs IMD - sounds like not that much of a fun weekend, hope things improve soon. Even with an atmosphere, at least OH is focused on getting the debt paid.

    Debt-free and Proud!
Wise words from Working Hard DFW but there are always hiccups along the way when one of you has lived with the LBM grim relaity of debt and the other has been just merrily assuming its all OK if the cash point still keeps on giving them money!
Keep going - I am sure it will all get better. Personally me and OH have had a few stops and starts but much better now - his iphone app makes a big difference (we log everything - even if its just a few pence) and we are genuinely sharing the burden of financial responsibility.

Best of luck IMD and do keep on ebaying..its surprising what you can get. Just missed out on a free listing day though am now wondering whether to leave my few items until the next free days or just go for it.

    Hi IMD (and everyone else),
What a great diary.I've spent the last few days reading it and what a great read.
Well done on everything you achieved so far.Great that DH is on board now.It will all settle soon with him..it's probably shock at the moment making him react that way.
You are doing great with e bay and well done on the pay rise.
It's such a long road when debtbusting but is well worth the effort and the only thing that keeps me going is the life we can have in a couple of years.
Have subscribed and I'm sure your totals will be coming down in big chunks before you know it.
  • Thank you everyone, really needed to read something supportive today!

In all honesty the day hasn't been too bad, but it's the moods, sad eyes etc etc that is doing my head in!

I made a point this morning by withdrawing £70 for food (as I knew we couldn't get eveything for £50) and £50 for next week's general spends. Handed them to OH and told him to deal with it - also handed him my debit cards as I know I won't use them. I have an annual train card and going to take £10 to work on Monday.

So off we all trundled shopping with the kids on a Saturday now that Mr T is banned and oh what fun we had with moaning kids asking for everything in sight. Spent total of £63 in Lidl and the market (meat, fruit etc) so we have £7 left for the week. OH has filled in the spending diary and all remaining money for week and shopping is in tin along with my cards.......

He has then been most resourceful and made a delicious tea whilst I disappeared for a 3 hour run, yes 3 hours!!:eek: Knackered doesn't cover it.

We are taking the kids for a walk tomorrow afternoon with homemade cakes and a flask of tea.

There were blips today like when he asked if I wanted a book, I said we couldn't afford it, he said don't be daft, I think, well what's the last bl00dy few days been about then  Had to point out that if we are going to be good then it means little things like this.

Only problem is that my trainers have a big hole in them and I have a long race in a few weeks. Seen the same pair reduced by £40 but shouldn't get them......

Off to spend Saturday night ebaying, hope you all have a good evening x

  • Sounds like OH is obn board IMD but just lagging behind in what getting DF means. I remember mine grumping around one weekend when we had no wine in the house and when I told him that we'd no money left to get any!! Grumble, grumble, grumble but I could deal with that.

I don't envy you the ebaying stin - I'm posponing mine until I finish my couse in April - but little by little the money does come in and considering its generally stuff that has been cluttering up the house.

And you will have it - I'm already signed up :)

Me too - you know that three or four years is what it will take, and three or four years is what we are here for.

I know, having been there with that level of debt, and with an OH who was not on the same debtbusting wavelength as me, that it is hard, it is lonely, and on many occasions you wonder why the heck you are continually putting yourself through this pain.

But as I now feel as though I am coming through the other side (even with all the other big "stuff" going on in my life, I am glad that I stuck with it......and I will continue, getting the support that I need from this place when I can't get it from anywhere else, and I will be debt free.....even if it takes a little longer than originally planned.

And so you too will get there. Don't give up......it only works if you stick with it, even if you are doing it largely by yourself at home.

I'm here for you, as are many others xxx

Oh, and get the trainers - use your ebay money to do it, then it is not costing anything out of your budget.

Last year when training for the marathon, I bought some new trainers in December that were ok for the first couple of weeks, but when I upped my milage, I got the most awful blisters.

I kept telling myself I couldn't afford to buy yet another pair, so continued until I could barely walk and the blisters got infected. I still have the scars :(

However, as soon as they were healed, I got my sensible head on, spent £70 or whatever, on a pair that didn't put pressure on in the same place as the old ones, and was able to carry on running. Had I stuck with the originals "because I can't afford new ones", I would hate to think how my feet would be now, and I certainly wouldn't have made it round London.

  • Thank you so much Hypno, the fact that with all this bigger stuff going on, you still have time for others means a lot. I know where you started from and that makes me feel like just maybe I CAN do this. To be debt free for me seems so unachievable but would be quite simply amazing! I cannot imagine the freedom, I have been in debt since aged 17 so I know nothing else.

Last night I felt like the pits, OH snoring away whilst figures were whirring in my head. I know OH wants to press the fast forward button on time to pay it off but I want us to be realistic as well.

I'm currently thinking "let him sort it out" and give him everything to deal with, but I know he won't ring up for the 0% deals or pay everything on time, search for hours on end for the best insurance price and spend hours listing ebay stuff. I want him to give me some credit for all of this. For the first time last night he acknowledged that we had taken holidays, paid car bills, house repairs/improvements and not once asked if we could afford it and that was neglient of him. So we are now in the position we can't afford anything, so no confusion there then :p

The thing is I love him, he loves me and we are in a sticky situation but I am sick of the blame game. Told him I will not have a 3/4 year argument about debt, everytime he's silent I'll wonder if it's the debt......

But tomorrow we are having a family day with no money to prove we can do this as it's not fair on the kids to see us bickering.

One thing I have to do is stick around on this site as I know I leave here and my head gets buried back beneath the sand

I do feel for you :(

Although the situation is different, I feel the same way about getting jobs done in the house. I have to initiate EVERYTHING. From DIY, to putting things away, deciding on meals to getting out clothes for the kids. Sometimes I'm sick of being the decision maker / motivator / manager, so I'm sure you must be fed up too.....

I also think you should get trainers - running keeps you sane. I was looking at some in the sale in John Lewis last week - good brands for £30-40, if there's one near you.

Also regarding the pet insurance, I don't have pets but was reading in the paper that a vet advised always having it. I don't know, but it may be false economy to do without it.

Defo keep posting here. It does help to have others in the same boat, on the same mission for when the going gets tough.

You ARE doing great though, remember that, and WILL be debt free. It will taste so sweet when you are too. Enjoy tomorrow xx
