No news is good news! Enjoy the calm and Happy Friday :)
  • .......and so the recriminations have begun. A whole two hours of them :( Where has it all gone (told 100's of times), why (ditto), when (ditto) over and over and over again................

Have sat and pointed out he has known about this for a long time and never faced up to it with me - seeing it in print has obviously given him a huge shock.

So the plan now is - he is in charge of menu plan/food shopping as I am carp in the kitchen. He is accepting of the amount of times I have tried to stick to a budget and he has blown it with trips to the local shop during the week - our weekly food budget is now £50  courtesy of Lidl/Aldi/Netto

We are taking money out of the bank each week, leaving our cards in the house and accouting for every penny - been here before as well and he never even wrote in his book.............

Cancelling pet insurance :eek::eek: which currently costs us £40 a month in total and I am currently putting £50 in a tin so I can pay them up front on renewal - we are putting £90 a month into savings until we have £600 in there as a vet fund - is this wise - I am scared, we have two elderley pets and one young one. He says if there is anything wrong with the two older ones they've had a good life :eek::eek::eek: Not sure about this one?

Cancelling sky in the whole house :j:j:j:j

Fairly (completely) emotionally drained. Have told him that if this something that is brought up/thrown in my face in every single conversation/argument then I personally cannot cope with it until the debt is repaid.

I am going to hammer ebay as the extra to get this paid off asap - we have a figure of 4 years - he now wants it in 3 - told him this isn't realistic - doesn't listen - but at least he is now 110% focused, if a little obsessive now about every single penny...............

I figure I'm going to need some help over the next few days/months/years.................

  • :jHi in my dreams I can feel for you with this, my OH has also had his head buried in the sand, I to have had to be honest with myself, but OH keeps having a go when something doesn't go his way, he needs to know that this is joint thing and is 2 sided not just one and that being realistic is better than being in denial.

Good luck you have my support.:)

Hey IMD - sorry have not written for ages - have been struggling a bit - but am catching up now.

Have only read the last few pages, so don't want to say anything silly because I haven't understand things properly - but i'm sorry things have been so tough for you recently (although great news about the payrise - well deserved and long overdue;))

    xx

  • Thank you Rupe - hope things are ok with you? It is hard isn't it, everytime we re-visit the topic we cover the same old ground and I'm not sure how many times I can go over it as we are not moving forward.

Didn't sleep very well, he is being perfectly nice with me but I can see in his eyes how annoyed he is and I don't want to spend the weekend walking on eggshells.

Got a load of ebaying to do today. Found a wholesaler source so thinking I could really turn the ebay into a second job as a way to pay the debt off as well.

Have a good day everyone x

I know Ebay is a total PIA and you have worked damned hard - BUT......it does bring in much needed extra income. (If only I could take a leaf out of your book and make a sustained effort myself.....)

Anyway, there are plenty of people making good money from it, so why not? There are worst second jobs you could have - at least you don't have to leave the house - except to the PO :o

Perhaps you could do a couple of craft/gift fairs too? Mother's Day and Easter are coming up and they are always good times to do them. Various members of my family have always done them - and farmer's markets, (despite not being farmers :D) and at certain times of the year - can be very lucrative - so it might be worth a punt?

Hang on in there. You have made a brave decision not to go BR, and although it's a hard slog, 3/4 years will pass quickly.

Just keep going for now - we're all here with you xx
  • Hi IMD,

    :grouphug: sweetie,

I can totally sympathise with you on the OH front. I also have massive debts , I am the one who always has to sort out the finances and when I try and talk to DH about it he gets in a strop and blames me for getting us into this mess:mad:.

    I have subscribed ;).

    Love

  • Small steps with OH. Mine had difficulties facing up as well at the beginning. I always held onto the thought that we had accumated the debt together and we'd clear it together. That said I took the lead, took control of the finances, made things as easy for him as possible ref tracking spending. He earns more than me and gets bonuses which have all gone off the debt.

It's about roles and even if you are doing all the debt fund raising, as long as he is on board and doing what is expected of him you'll achieve it.

Keep going, keep posting and keep your goals in mind.
