    Hi In my dreams! :hello:

I've just started my debt-free journey as well and it's nice to see another newbie as well. Don't beat yourself up so much as it seems to me that the beginning is the hardest as you have to get your head around so much. Best of luck - I'll be happy to read how well you do - and mmm...chocolate! ;)

You sound a little better now :)

Glad to hear OH is starting to pull his weight with the money side. I feel the same with my OH - in fact the SOA I have in my diary is just for me because after experimenting that's how it's working for now.

Although my OH doesn't have debts except his cc, his difficulty is seeing himself through the month. He's very much of the 'if the money's there' mentality then come rent week starts worrying then about if he has enough... To be fair I used to be similar but he's not in 'that' place quite yet although I think he will be soon... It's hard isn't it when you are so focussed and your OH isn't there with you...

    How are you today?

  • I am back, not going anyway despite heavy cloud!!

Felt fairly positive this morning, had a meeting with boss at work, all was well until he wandered off to leave me to pay £2.50 for the coffees  He obviously pays my wages, knows what I earn so I could hardly quibble with him over £2.50 but I did feel like kicking him!

Spent nothing else all day, lunch taken in and eaten, refused offer of chocolate from shop, very proud of myself.

Come home to a sparkling clean house, dinner cooked and revelation that DH had spent £20 at the garden centre  despite knowing we really were going to struggle this week. Told him this morning we had £33.50 left until Friday - make that £11.00 now! To make matters worse, despite the ban on using debit cards and to take cash out of the tin (to make us appreciate the true value of money).....dah de dah.....he used his debit card! What oh what do I have to do to make him understand?

Don't get me wrong, I love him to bits, would do anything for him and he would do the same for me and this is not about slating him, but why doesn't he just get it?? :wall:

Already have commitments I need to pay out this week so we will be £10 over budget and we also need to find an extra £100 for other stuff I hadn't thought about. In normal circumstances it would be the credit card but I refuse to do that this month and am going to get some stuff on ebay first thing tomorrow that should raise the shortfall. We are also going out on Saturday for something we have arranged a long time ago and I am going to have find extra for that or lose out on our tickets and not get a refund.

BUT I will do it, I am thinking differently. Without a doubt I would have reached for CC without thinking this time last month but not this time. I have printed on chart for spending diary so far and intend to show OH later, as he will see quite how much he really does spend and what we could have saved money on!

Thanks for all the messages of support, they mean a lot, I know I'm not alone and my OH is not unique...........thank god!

You have experienced a definite shift of attitude, and are moving along with that - his lightbulb is merely flickering at the moment, he is on an "energy saving lightbulb" moment, whereas you are on a "grab the 100w ones while they last" trip!

It is very rare for both partners to "get it" at the same time, but hopefully before too long you will settle into a comfortable routine between you and you will make more progress.

But don't forget that just a few weeks ago you were in the same frame of mind as he is - it may not be long before he is joining you full on.

  • Hypno - hope he joins me soon!

Just had infuriating email from Egg. They sent me an email last week upping my interest rate. I emailed them back asking "if I chose to opt out" would it mean my current 0% rate was unaffected. Had an email from them today saying they acknowledge I have opted out!!!!!!!! I haven't, I asked about it, that was all!

I have replied to them with the exact email I sent pointing out I didn't opt out, I hope it isn't too late as I was just going to keep hold of them to tart around with (so to speak) but we shall see. It was clear I didn't say I was opting out so we shall see if they can bothered to respond?

  • You need not!

This is my email to them.....

"I have been sent an email about my interest rate rise. If I did choose to opt out would the 0% interest rate currently on my account apply and then be followed by the old interest rate? "
At which point did I say I want to opt out??

    Their reply:-
"Thank you for your request to opt-out of the interest rate increase. This message is to confirm your request has been actioned and you have now been opted out."

Dur!!! Did they read any part of it?

I have replied and said that at no point did I say I was opting out and that they haven't even bothered to read my bl00dy email!

Shall we take bets on the type of response I get?!

My advice would be to print out every secure message you send or receive - then if you need to make a proper complaint you have hard copies to throw at them.

Egg have been horrid to me, but to give them their dues, when I have gone through the formal complaints process they have been quite good - giving me a reduced APR, a bit of cash to cover my phone calls and time, and even a case of wine :D

Anyway, I paid off the last debt to egg last week, so I am one happy hypno now :T

  • You lucky cow! I'm going to print everything off, I mean am I being completely stupid or did I subconsciously say "yes I opt out" - twerps!

Off now to hunt for House Insurance via Quidco and sadly feel quite excited about it!

How has your plans for starting to run again gone?
