I wonder about this every week - OH pays for shopping but gets paid weekly so ours is a weekly budget - if we had the money for shopping for the month all in one go I'd probably just go ahead and get all the special offers but it makes it a little more difficult when I'm going week-by-week.
Agree about realistic budgets taking time, I think you learn a lot through just even using a budget and refining it each month, it's like a work-in-progress budgeting is.
Ah! I wish I were paid weekly. I find it so much easier.
Ah well, you can't have it all. Best of luck for your budget: mine is definitely a very rough masterpiece! Please call me 'Pickle'

Glad I'm not the only one over budget! We seem to have gone horrendously over budget so far this month, I dread to think how much we would normally spend when we are not trying to cut back as methodically as we are. I nipped to shops before and spent £4 on stuff we just didn't need  but I have been good and written it down in the book. Keep looking at my pie chart of where all the money has gone so far :eek: Seems to be childcare, sweets and kids. Keep thinking next month will be better, but I didn't expect things to be this difficult this month!
Spent all morning getting two computers ready for Ebay and finally got them on :jNo idea what to expect to get for them but at least they're on.
Decided, if I'm feeling very brave (and would have to be VERY brave) may list my spreadsheet at the end of the month of what we've spent but I'm sure you'll shout at me
Feels pleased that we are trying though, it will probably just take a few months to get our head around it completely.1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

Well done on the spending diary and budgeting. Those things are both my mantra as a lot of people know. I've learnt such a lot from the our spending diary and I've regularly reviewed and adjusted the budgets to reflect what we are actually spending!!

Hi there
I started my spending diary at the beg of the year, and Ive only just got my spending below my budget, so dont worry it can take time to get into the swing of knowing where to make the cuts and how to go about it. I personally found it very self empowering taking the little seps req to take hold of the situation, and I m sure you will get there in the end. Just changing your thought processes about what you are spending each day before adding it all up is a huge step. So, well done so far!My debts at LBM (2009)Grand Total £161,983.77.(Incs everything, mtge, cr cards, loans)
May 2013 £124,080.27= £37,903.50 paid off WOW!!!!! Well done! There is a guardian angel out there! :AI'm visualising success, debt freeness, and happy days!:T0 -
Thank you for all your nice messages about spending diaries, I do think it is a learning curve and we are definitely learning!
Have jumped a huge hurdle tonight. Best friend has been round and I have 'fessed up to her. Was very very hard to do, but she knows I have been fairly upset for weeks and knew I had something I had thought about telling her. A few glasses of wine, a few tears and it is all off my chest. I even told her the full amount :eek: She was brilliant, very very supportive and not at all judgmental and I actually feel relieved about it all. She is the only person I have told properly and actually said the figure.
She made me feel so much better though, said it was sensible to agree to still have a life and pay it off and that if it's only five years off then to just get on, do it and not spend all my time stressing on it. Far better reaction than I ever thought.
Off to bed now, thinking the wine will help me sleep and now a problem shared is most definately one halved1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

That's great. :T I think that your real friends (and I do mean real ones, not the ones who pretend to be your real friends) always show their true colours when things are going so well. Remember that friend: she'll be the one who is always there for you when things get tough! Please call me 'Pickle'

Woke up this morning and then remembered what I'd done  BUT feel so so much better about it. I think I thought she was going to look at me (us) and question everything we've done that's cost money and why spend money we didn't have. She had thought I was going to tell her something really terrible so was relieved it was just debt
Made me think, it isn't in fact the end of the world. It is up to us to rectify the situation but so far we are able to do that and it can be mended. Facing up to it has been the hard part and dealing with it is just the next step forwards.
Can't quite believe I said those figures out loud though, when she was guessing the amount she started at £5k, if only......
Got to work all day today, but washed a load of clothes for Ebay last night and got a fair bit more to put on but will do it over the weekend. Fingers crossed my computers go for a decent amount.1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

Well done!
I have told a few people now and i find that they disclose some decent sums they have been stressing about! You will find out who your real friends are! Some people just wont get it and keep saying "oh lets do lunch"or book a girly weekend or see a show ,and yes you do feel like poking them in the eye! Dont forget though the people who are always doing theese things may not have had their LMB yet or maybe they can just afford it. Who knows
Keep doing what you are doing and dont worry about anyone else!
Glad your friend sounds nice!x:T
