I had to reply to this thread. Have only read the first page but it has reduced me to tears. Having just joined this site realising that I myself am heading for a finacial mess after the end of a relationship. I have to say this story has made me start to sort myself out.
All I can say is no one deserves to be treated the way you have been and hang on in there.

Quick Reply and I look forward to the OP's comments later:
Despite what others say, I think the last thing you should do is sell your own house.
I think there may be a way to sell the PIL property.
I would personally be very tempted to stop paying the mortgage on the PIL property. You need the money now.
I also think we need to see a SOA, as I think you may be able to contain the current CC problems by switching / tarting etc.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Hi Jen
Ive just read this thread and its astounding the way you have been treated.
However, now is the time for action! You and Pete seem to have a strong relationship and you need to deal with these problems together.
First priority is to get hold of that contract and read the fine print! I am 99% certain there has to be a way out. You said they had a clause which prevented you from downsizing them to certain areas - well there's no way they can have listed every cheap area in the county so find a cheap flat in on they missed and ship them off into it!
Get yourself down to the Citizens Advice Berau first thing in the morning and see what they advise. It may require some drastic action to get them out of the house.
Its going to be hard. You both may feel guilty. But its time to look after yourselves - although we can support you and offer ideas - noone on this forum can do it for you.

Bob, completely agree with you there, I would definately suggest NOT selling your own home AT ALL. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I absolutely agree that you should investigate all possible ways to sell the property your PILs are effectively squatting in, and keep your own home. If you can keep that and sort out your health you'll have two important fixed points.
I hope you're kind of OK.
We're all thinking of you.0
