  • Rachel B - you can go there upto april, the snow can be a bit slushing in the resorts but fine for skiing - feb half term is ultra busy and expensive, as expensive as christmas/new year - it's also a very busy time for the finns as they are also on holiday - if you can, go out of the school hols, it will be far cheaper etc

as for santatrips - they posted over on TA that they were cancelling trips so just be careful with them (post now removed as we all laid into them), don't want you to book and get all excited only for them to cancel as they do not have the amount of bookings they require

just keep your eye out for the last min deals on last min as they should go down in price for the shorter breaks, go as late as you can in dec too, I would check every day if I was you as they can come in fast and be booked up straight away if they are good

thanks for the heads up on santatrips

  • espriit have a good rep and apparently their trip to saariselka is very good - earthtraveller over on TA did their trip to there but it's still very expensive £2500 for a 3 night trip is just way too much if you ask me espeically when you can get a week with everything in for that price

I would keep any eye on last min as they are selling off the inghams breaks cheaper

is there anyway you can get a week off, just blag it and see what your boss says - make up some stupid excuse like a last minute wedding you have to go to as best man and it's abroad - as you won't be getting a sun tan it won't be obvisous - ask for unpaid leave - actually - isn't there a rule that people which children under a certain age can have a certain amount of time off unpaid to be with their children??

  • have a look at first choice as they do santa breaks - just be mindful of going to rovinevi as it's a city and it south - the more north you go the better - also look into what you actually get for your money and how much the extras are

is that the same as rovaniemi ?

  • yes, but I have never been able to spell it ;-)
  • Been looking at http://laplandbargains.co.uk and the ski deals on http://www.thomascook.com/holidays/ski-holidays/ski-snowboard-deals?intcmp=ski_skideals more and more thinking we might try a week skiing holiday in Finland or Sweden given the prices. Has anyone done this as a Santa holiday substitute / combination ?

I presume it is the same principle - wait until e.g 1st November for the best deals ? I don't mind waiting to book but we do really want to go. Can leave from any London airport and most dates OK so figure we are flexible enough to find a bargain...

    Thanks.

Has anyone heard of a company called ski breakaway? I have found a brill ski holiday on lastminute to suit our needs and phoned lastminute to ask for the company name. I have googled ski breakaway but can't find anything.

never heard of ski breakaway, where is the deal to on last minute?

thepeacock - we have only ever done the ski breaks instead of the santa breaks, done a week's holiday each time and if you want all the santa stuff you can have it too - it's far more cost effective - also - look at inghams for the week stay as they offer you more options for skiing in finland that anyone else
