btw, I asked several stores about this combo (had trouble sorting delivery). None mentioned an issue.
Many sales reps (especially in the big chains) simply don't know. But many others just won't tell you because they want a sale.0 -
In a way, the easiest option might be to order a 2nd set of slats - something like these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Solid-Pine-Replacement-Bed-Slats-Double-Bed-4ft-6-New_W0QQitemZ220483313789QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBeds_Mattresses?hash=item3355d4607d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Not sure if slats are a standard thickness - mine are about 19mm, at any rate.0

The seller have got back to me - saying the bed and mattress should be fine as is. Trying to decide whether it's still worth looking for a 2nd set of slats to add, on the basis of better safe than sorry...0

What I did with my bed was go to wickes and buy a pack of planks the same thickness as the existing slats for about £6, then cut them to length.0 -

Many retailers (and some manufacturers) will tell you that their pocket sprung mattresses are fine with slatted bases. The truth is that you can often use them, but they won't last as long.0 -
Thanks. Think I'll go for the readymade ones, to be honest - not very moneysaving, but by the time I've got to the DIY store, got hold of tools, etc. I won't get in for much under £30 anyway. And I'm lazy
As far as I can measure, my slats are around 19mm thick - and buying the ebay slats will leave me with around 1-1.5cm between slats. Worth 30 quid if it means a £200 mattress lasts a bit longer, I think.0 -

Many big DIY will actually cut them to length for you.
Those advertised on ebay look far to slim.0 -
Thanks. A good idea, but my local B&Q doesn't cut to size (at least, didn't a few months back), and as far as I know there aren't any places nearby that do
Lazy, I know...but in what sense are the ebay ones too slim - is 19mm not thick enough? They would fit my bed OK, as far as I can tell: sitting between the slats currently screwed into the frame, and leaving only small gaps (the dimensions are pretty much the same as the slats that came with the bed). Unless I need to just get a whole new set of slats...0 -

As long as they are the same thickness as your existing slats, and there are enough of them to close the gaps up to 1", then they should be ok.
I was just trying to save you money.0 -
Thanks - I appreciate the attempt to save me cash, esp given the forum we're on
The ready-made slats would close all gaps to a bit over 1cm, and I have measured my existing slats as 19mm thick too. Lazy, I know, but by the time I've paid for transport + planks + saw (+ damage possibly done due to cackhandedness), I could end up with a bodge that doesn't save me much...
