Driving without insurance

However as a caveat to that, just because you don't have a valid MOT doesn't totally mean you have *no* insurance. The insurance company pay not pay out to you if you have an accident. But it doesn't absolve them of their responsibilites to a third party.0

1. No MOT does not automatically invalidate an insurance policy - you must check your particular policy for terms and conditions.
2. Driving with no MOT is illegal ( except driving to a pre-booked MOT test ).
3. Driving with no Insurance is illegal.
4. Driving with no tax is illegal.
5. You must have valid insurance and MOT in order to buy a tax disc.
So if you have no MOT and get stopped, you will be prosecuted for having no MOT, and MAY OR MAY NOT be prosecuted for having no insurance - depending upon the terms and conditions of your particular policy.
Almost spot on but s148 of the road traffic act does not allow insurers to evade RTA cover on the basis of…..
(a) the age or physical or mental condition of persons driving the vehicle,
(b) the condition of the vehicle,
(c) the number of persons that the vehicle carries,
(d) the weight or physical characteristics of the goods that the vehicle carries etc etc
This means that even if you are driving an badly overloaded death trap whilst drunk as a skunk the insurance company will still have to pay out to cover damage to third parties.
They can try and avoid paying for the damage to your car but the insurance regulator has ruled that unless any defects actually contributed (worn tyres making you skid for example) to the accident then you should still get paid. Lack of MOT in it’s self can’t contribute to an accident so can’t invalidate your cover.0 -
better all make sure we read our insurance docs then LOL
Actually you should all read your insurance documents.
Many people have been caught out by a wide range of things for example some people are not covered to drive cars third party at all on their policy, some policies auto-renewal and the insurance company doesn't tell you.
All these cause many problems on this and the insurance forum.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Please be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

heres another one:
dont drive a friends car on your insurence if they still have payments outstanding, this can catch you out as your insurence company often wont cover you for such cars.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000

You rude person ( ring any bells? )
The OP hasn't actually done anything wrong, it was her Husband at fault ( read the OP properly ).
Her Husband didn't " bend " any law, he broke the law, for which he has been punished, how has any of this got anything to do with " peoples safety "?
" Why was he stopped " What has that got to do with anything?
The OP obviously realises that what her Husband did was wrong, he has paid the price for it.
Why do you need to rub salt in the wound, make you feel better?
yes it does, ding dong............
Why was he stopped, well, you don't get stopped for nothing do you???, let's see, I were driving an uninsured car would make sure I did nothing to warrant being stopped...
Safety of other people on the roads and not driving in a way that warrants being STOPPED, clear now?Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
