Actually you should all read your insurance documents.

Many people have been caught out by a wide range of things for example some people are not covered to drive cars third party at all on their policy, some policies auto-renewal and the insurance company doesn't tell you.

All these cause many problems on this and the insurance forum.

This is good advice, for example if you work in the motor trade (or sometimes if your job has transport in the title), the insurance will automatically not give you cover to drive other people's cars as third party.

Direct Line for one do (or used to do) this, as I found when I got insurance and my job title was Transport Officer (which was actually an office job arranging school transport and nothing to do with the motor trade). Of course explaining this to the fool on the end of the phone wasn't much fun.

xocbc you should just change your Job Title to "Manager" and the business type "Education" or "School"

You will not have the DOC exclusion and may get a discount as Insurers often like people employed in Education

You only have yourself to blame. Everyone knows you must have your car insured. With all the high-tech gadgets the police have it is too risky even to drive for one mile, let alone the risk of an accident.

the way ive always done it(bought a few cars on ebay)
is phone my insurer the day before to sort out the costs to change
then go to the car, check it over etc
once im happy and the deals done i just phone up and say i want to go ahead with the change on file.
obviously you need to ensure you get the car while the phonelines are open
