Driving without insurance

Hi
My other half was in accident on Saturday, and his car was a write off. We bought a new one yesterday on ebay, and collected it last night. Obviously we did not part money until we had checked it (9pm last night) and he drove it straight home.
On his way back, he was stopped by the police and has been fined and goven points for driving without insurance. I did not realise that he had to be insured for the returning home from purchase journey (we did not want to insure until today, in case the car was rubbish and we did not buy it
)
What would have been the best course of action, and is does all of teh above sound correct?
Please do not be overly critical if I have been overly thick, it has been a testing few days

The best course of action would have been to insure the car for 24 hours via one of the specialist insurers that do short term cover.
Cost around £20 a day.0 -
Yes I agree with inactive, my hubby had to move his sister's car while she was on her hols and got insurance for a few hours, cost £13.
What if your hubby was in an accident on the way home (which is actually more likely than normal, with him driving a strange car).
An expensive lesson I agree but it could have been a whole lot worse.0 -

So what do you think would have happened if he had been involved in an accident on the way home with no insurance, would you have paid any costs damages or repairs yourself?0 -

Why do you think you wouldn't have needed insurance? What would you have done if you had been in a crash/accident whilest driving home?

this is really scary, you seriously thought you could get around to insuring when you felt like it?
I hope I don't meet you on the roads.
Why do people think they can bend the law and other peoples safety to suit themselves.
And why was he stopped????Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -

I did ask for what we should have done, not have a go!!0 -
An expensive lesson learnt here. But it could have been a lot worse and that doesn't bear thinking about......0

Errr yes,
paying for damage caused if you are at fault & uninsured is not optional
OP.....as others will tell you you must have insurance to drive or even park a car on th ehighway. Glad to hear he's not injured, it sounds like a fixed penulty notice £200 & six points plus increased premiums in future. Did they impound the car?0 -
