If he had been in a serious crash or accident on the way home it would have been far worse - as others have said there are firms that offer immediate cover on a daily basis, or you could have called your old insurers and asked them about putting a different car on the old policy.

Whilst I have driven a car home without an up to date tax disc, I would never drive without insurance - the consequences can be dire.

My OH bought a car off ebay, we went up, looked at it, and he agreed to buy, then we returned the next day and collected it when insurance had been sorted. As the car was over an hours drive away, it was a bit of a faff, but it is not worth risking your own wellbeing and that of other people by driving uninsured.

I'm just interested in how you thought it would be okay to drive without any insurance! You said you didn't realise. How could you not realise?

I was enquiring as to the alternatives to buying a full insurance policy for a car we did not know we were going to buy.

you either buy the car, and arrange to return and collect it after you have arranged insurance
    or
you call your existing insurer and ask them to put another car on the policy with immediate effect
    or
you contact a company who offers short periods of car insurance and pay for a days insurance with them to get the car home, then sort out your own insurance.

What you don't do is drive it home, uninsured. I am not sure what logic could have lead you to think this was legal.

Luckily he was not involved in an accident, although it is not unusual for people to have a bump in an unfamiliar car, and I presume you will not make the same mistake again!

Okay, then you should have thought "this situation must happen all the time, I wonder how other people deal with it" and then come on here and ask. Or search. I'm fairly certain this has been asked before.

Good luck finding insurance now. With an IN10 it's not going to be easy.

this is really scary, you seriously thought you could get around to insuring when you felt like it?

I hope I don't meet you on the roads.

Why do people think they can bend the law and other peoples safety to suit themselves.

    And why was he stopped????

You rude person ( ring any bells? )

The OP hasn't actually done anything wrong, it was her Husband at fault ( read the OP properly ).

Her Husband didn't " bend " any law, he broke the law, for which he has been punished, how has any of this got anything to do with " peoples safety "?

" Why was he stopped " What has that got to do with anything?

The OP obviously realises that what her Husband did was wrong, he has paid the price for it.

Why do you need to rub salt in the wound, make you feel better?

Oh my goodness, thank you so much :D
  • tbh I think a lot of people do this unintentionally, buy a car privately, take it home and then insure it.
