  • Hi Nillhouse,

    Thanks for the reply.

First thing each time you apply for a job or have an interview and they ask your reason for leaving your last job do not say "I was fired because I was sick to much". Otherwise as you will find / have found no one will offer you a job.

Try the more creative answer. such as "I left because the company was struggling / making redundancies".

Have you tried these job boards.

You have some good experience in factories, retail and baking. You sound sharp and switched on . You need to get a decent CV together (no spelling mistakes).

When you have any contact with any potential employers be positive, well presented, professional (and never cuss your old employers / jobs at interview).

A good attitude goes, a long, long way.

Just a couple of points which might be off some use.

    I wish you well.

P.S think seriously about the "reason for leaving answer" (from what you have said your current super honest answer is putting employers off so change it to my more creative one;)

    Hi Nillhouse

If you have any condition at the moment that could make it more difficult for you to find work you could ask to see the disability employment advisor at the jobcentre they might be able to help you find a job

    Good luck

Thanks for your advise guys, its really hard thinking of something to say about leaving my last job, its allways when they ask that, I start to get a bit nervous in interviews, and obviously they can read you like a book.

Just look them straight in the eye and say I got made redundant.

If they follow that up with can you supply reference say yes.

The interviewer will soon move on to the next question.

Ah well, got the Mercers letter today, they are going to send a Formal Demand for full balance, which is now £1,879.10p, but I can stop all this by paying £53 straight away, and £53 for the next 6 months.

I had written to Barclaycard after I recieved their last letter, to try and make another offer, (because obviously I cant afford it), but this time they have written saying, "Do NOT ask us again to accept payments lower than this ammount".

At the moment, Im in the frame of mind, that it would be easier just to go Bankrupt.

BTW, does anyone have a copy the PDF file, of which banks deal with which other banks?
I want to open up a Basic account, but I dont want to be dealing with a bank that deals with one of my creditors.
    Cheers

HFC have served a default notice, they want £80 by 4th July, Ive got no chance of paying that, so, I guess they will take me to court. I just wish someone would make me bankrupt. Make it all go away.

    Hi

Just wanted to say that I had a help pack from CCCS which had letters etc in, as well as helping me to draw up a statement of affairs etc. I have a contact number and email address of someone there if I have any problems. I am off on maternity leave and was ill, so unable to return to work when my wages dropped, and could only offer £1 token payments.

Capital One have been great, as they have with you! Barclays have been a nightmare, as have Mercers (who are actually the inhouse debt collectors for Barclays, I believe!). They have never acknowleged my letters. Right now, I just send them a letter eah time I send a payment.....if the cheque gets cashed, I know they have the letter!!

Most of my creditors phone regularly in spite of me being ill, and I have made numerous requests for them to stop.

Two weeks ago, the phone went at 0815 on a Saturday morning! That was the last straw.....I phoned BT, told them I was getting calls I didn't want, and they changed my number within about 2 hours for NO COST! I had caller display, but the phone constanly ringing drove me mad!

The letters are now getting nastier, because they are all frustrated at not being able to phone and harrass me, but at least now I can concentrate on getting better and getting back to work. I cannot pay them what I haven't got no matter what they threaten, and I am sure a court would agree.

Try talking to CCCS, and see what they can do. They can advise you, and also keep you on record for when you are back at work, then you could start up a DMP and evrything will be dealt with by them.

GOOD LUCK for your interview. My OH has just managed to get a job after 8 months!!!

This is good advice - a lot of employers won't advertise at job centres because they reckon they'll just get timewasters who are doing their required number of interviews to be able to sign on. Employment agencies, the job sites above, and the local paper are much better bets. Perhaps you could consider temporary work - as a baker, you might well be able to get short-term contracts doing holiday cover or helping out with busy periods.

See if you can get some help via the job centre to re-do your CV - the fact that you only got 1 reply from 23 applications suggests it's possibly letting you down. Make sure that you read the advertisement carefully and tailor each application to the job. So for instance, if the job asks for a 'motivated person who is a team player', give examples from your previous jobs that shows that's the sort of person you are.
