That's the spirit Cinny, Keep Calm and Carry On and all that
I'm off down to Nottingham again later, I hate going, it would be so much easier going to London. Never mind though, got Jane Austen and Professor Layton in my handbag to keep me company on the trainWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Have you got the safety messures for Nottingham as well. I don't think Jane Austen will protect you.0

Morning Everyone
Not feeling so Jazz-tastic today. The possibility of having my hours slashed to 12.5 a week is rearing it's head again, admittedly a tad more seriously this time. Will mean my wages will only be £62.50 a week, or £30 after board. How am I meant to save to move out on that? Or even get by on it?! What tiddles me off even more is because I'm family, I'm just meant to get on with it.
I can't even look down at my Uggs and feel a warm happy glow anymore, how am I meant to pay them off on those wages?Tete_en_l'Air wrote: »Aw Cinny, that's bad news. Doesn't mean to say that has to be the only job you have though ... if it's a temporary cut could you do some seasonal work and see where the company stands in the new year?
I think Tete is right, most of the companies who want Christmas staff apoint by mid October so you're better to get an application in now. A friend of mine did that 2 years ago, she got invited to do the Boots management programme as she performed so well, and she runs a fragrance department now! Shes only 22 as well so its really good going for her.
I know its really rough, the threat of redundancy is why for the first time in about 30 years people en masse are finally paying back more than they borrow, because its not the end of the world if you loose your job with nothing owing.
I know you are loyal to the family company, but there comes a point when you realise you need them more than they need you, and by working there you are putting your future plans at risk. Obviously I hope and pray they don't cut your hours, but if they did could you not consider getting a full time job? You'd have the same outgoings as now, but more than £500 more in your pocket per month even on minimum wage, and thats going to get you that dream house/wedding/a family/holidays a lot quicker and you'd have a much better quality of life.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Oi, I won't be having any of that! Nottingham is fine, just a bit.. rough around the edges...
Dinah - I know what you mean, I have to think of myself because (as much as I hate to say it) the family firm clearly aren't. If my hours do get cut, I think I'll seriously look into leaving completely. I'll just have to chuck myself in the deep end somewhere else. I don't think I'd do too well in a shop like Boots though - I'm clumsy and have a nervous energy. Would you really want that trying to sell you foundation?!0 -
You're really into your fashion, what about a clothes shop? My friend just worked on the tills, but she always greeted people with a smile and was efficient and that impressed people higher up.
I wouldn't nessisarily say your family aren't thinkingof you at all, I think if you weren't related you'd have had no hours quite a while ago, and they are trying to give you something rather than nothing.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I honestly don't think they are looking out for me, there are loads of other cut backs they could do before me and the other office girl. It just seems we're the easy option. I think they're having a proper talk about it sometime this week, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I like the shop idea though! Would love to work in a place like Holland and Barrett too, ooh there's a little shop in town that's like a mini Lakeland and they're always after staff.0 -
So why don't you go into town and see whats going on? You don't want to feel resentful towards your employers, especially if they are family. You also never know, they might be doing other cut backs as well.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I'd like to think they're doing other cut backs but they run everything past me, my brother and cousin. I wouldn't really want to leave, I do love my job. I'm just a bit ticked off today, I think a possible 50%+ wage cut would tick the calmest person off.
Plus they seem to expect me and my brother to run at this full force, heads full of ideas. But we've both come into a kind of run down company, my Pa and Uncle have near given up on it. It's really hard to be creative with ideas when everything seems pretty much grey.0 -
If they've got no enthusiasm they can't really expect you to have! But I don't think you can just accept a 50% wage cut, thats less money than a Saturday job you have at 14!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
