You're a rake anyway woman!
If you get Amazon vouchers you can upload them into amazon and then I don't think they expire they just sit there. Waiting and tempting.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I think Amazon vouchers are valid for 1 year? Not too sure though!0

I'm tempted, if we get our points back, to forget about the Wainwright walking books and buy loads of books about sewing instead! But will resist. Going to head to the library at dinnertime

I need to head out to my shed. I've got loads of sewing books out there, simple projects, 101 things to do with your first sewing machine, that kind of thing. I got them when I got the sewing machine in a fit of hope!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Yeah I think they last a year, the ones from BP do anyway.
Is my sisters birthday so we are off to Gauchos for dinner tonight. Is going to be expensive so only one course for me I think!0 -
I had another look at my machine this morning (the second look!) and it's nothing like those electronic ones! I don't think I'll be able to zigzag stitch or anything remotely exciting, and it seems to thread differently. It's a lot like this one, possibly a smidge newer:
Eek, I'm not going to be able to do anything!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Have a nice night!
NIM and I were planning to go to this lovely place in Darlington tonight, they do an early bird thing (early, until 10pm!) which is £12.95 and the food is some of the best I've ever had. However, we've kind of completely lost control of the fianances and have no idea what is coming or going. So we need to sit down and take stock. The situation at the moment is we're about £1800 in debt, and we need to sort it out. NIM starts studying for the course next week so we really only have a few days to tackle the fiances. NIM also feels its time he stepped up and 'be the man in the relationship', which so far I can gleen means he wants to understand and take over the finances. He also mentioned he ought to be working out what needs doing, rather than me always drawing endless lists. I don't know what else it means but I like the sound of him taking some of the day to day responsibility off my shoulders.
Tete that machine in the picture has a lever to alter the stitch type on the front of it. I'm sure you'll be able to use it, don't panic just yet, we've only had one class!!!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Tete - that looks like simple machine threading to me! I think you just need to take what you learn in the lesson and adapt it to your machine. Just get a scrap of fabric and test out all the different stitches with different tensons. It'll become second nature to you in no time.
Have fun at the meal tonight Wendz! Make sure you get what you want rather than just going for the cheapest option, no point spending X amount on a meal you don't really like just to save a few pounds (:
ETA: Dinah, it sounds good that NIM wants to take over a bit!
I think you could do with completely rethinking your savings/budgets though, if you're getting back into debt they are clearly too tight.
Thankfully it's a manageble amount of debt - is that just from NIMS course though? If it is, forget what I said. You didn't really budget for NIM doing a OU course so of course you'll be in some debt from it!0 -
Sewing course sounds fun! I'm sure you'll be knocking up your own clothes within weeks!
I love that retro machine! I'd love one, but I fear it would just end up gathering dust if I didn't know how to use it properly. And my trousers would all still need shortening...
I've signed up for a one-day cake decorating course in November which mostly seems to involve making a 'Jolly Father Christmas cake decoration or centrepiece' but I hope that we learn other techniques as well. And I'm glad it's not a 'sinister and creepy' Father Christmas
Lucky Wendz, I love Gaucho! It makes me remember why I gave up being vegetarian after about 11 years...
Dinah, maybe you should go out for dinner and use it as a chance to talk to NIM about what he envisages happening - nothing too deep, you don't want to ruin the meal! but you won't have all your figures with you, so you could just talk about it generally? And with less guilt!LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -
I agree with Cinny Dinah, there's no point in having £6k in savings and £2k debt. Did you not pay for the course with the tesco points in the end? Good news about NIM taking over, even if only for a bit, but will you be able to let him?!
That machine in the pic has more knobs and levers than mine I have to say! Definitely going to have to have a play with it, am excited! Anyway Miss Cinny, do I not remember a picture from your flickr of a DRESS you made?Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0
