Yep that sounds like the place we were looking at. I did like the outside area, thought we could come up with something fun for there if it was a nice day, and could be very romantic out there at night (again, assuming it doesn't rain!)

It was! I was a spinster at the time though so it was thoroughly depressing :o

Because its just amazing, and I would like the whole insanely elegant beautiful day, just I don't want it enough to pay out nearly an extra £3k for it! I just keep reminding myself its just one day, the important thing is everyone is going to be there to celebrate with us no matter where and when it is, and Judges was lovely, I think I maybe just need to go back when its actually set up for a wedding. Still have a lot of other places to see though so who knows.

Well the only advice I can give you is to go with your gut feeling. We did that for our wedding and we had a brilliant day. Some bits did end up costing us more (such as hiring a boat to bring everyone along the coast of Barcelona) but we were able to cut back in other areas (we didn't need to hire a band and DJ as the venue has its own DJ for free & he was brill) and make the budget work for us. The boat trip for our guests was a talking point of the day (just using it as an example here) and is still discussed 3 years on.

You have lots of other places to view so I have no doubt you will find something beautiful to match your budget. I think if you go with your gut instincts you won't go too far wrong though :)

My cousin had his wedding reception in a village hall with a lovely garden next to it in the country somewhere in Kent and was soo lovely. I wouldn't actually mind doing something like that if the location was nice (if I ever get married that is).

Just keep looking Dinah, hopefully you will find somewhere perfect for you.

Right, out of the box thinking time. How can we find an additional £12,000 in a year above what we already save/make etc? NIM won't let me get a second job, so I feel very limited and I'm starting to panic. Currently I'm thinking trying to get prints of my paintings and some sort of basic sewing item (aprons?!) on etsy in time for christmas.... might make a few hundred but not enough!

Can NIM get a 2nd job in a pub or something?
Do you both earn £50 each on dooyoo every month?
Slice The Pie -can you up the earnings on that
AQA - join twitter to get job updates and get NIM to apply for that
Up your MS jobs (although you both seem to do quite a lot already)
Both of you look for new jobs (I'm sure your both looking)
Open University - are either of you applying for the lecture posts?
Evening classes - do either of you have a talent (expert salsa dancer) so you could run an evening class?
Dog walkers/run a shopping service in the evenings for older people
Babysitting - quite a bit of money to be made from that
Library books - the ones you sold. You seemed to make quite a bit from that
Maths/English/French grinds etc etc - any of you good at a school subject?

Can't think of any more. I think 12K is a lot to earn over and above what you are doing already. You want to have a a life as well as save for a house and wedding. If you really want to be together after the wedding could you not rent somewhere cheaply. I know it is dead money but you will be together by yourselves. When you move in together (at first) it is so lovely and exciting that owning the place isn't necessarily so important.

Can NIM get a 2nd job in a pub or something? No he's doing the degree which is about 20 hours a week, + church stuff and fulll time job, that leaves half a weekend day free
Do you both earn £50 each on dooyoo every month? Only I do Dooyoo- he doesn't have time, I am however hoping to get up to about £50 a month from here
Slice The Pie -can you up the earnings on that Getting back into it, will have to hit it harder though
AQA - join twitter to get job updates and get NIM to apply for that I was refused when I applied last. If you hear they need people again let me know!
Up your MS jobs (although you both seem to do quite a lot already) Can't, already take everything availalbe in the area
Both of you look for new jobs (I'm sure your both looking) Always looking
Open University - are either of you applying for the lecture posts? I think he applied, need to ask him, the one I'm applying for doesn't close until January though.
Evening classes - do either of you have a talent (expert salsa dancer) so you could run an evening class? He doesn't have time, I don't think I have skills!
Dog walkers/run a shopping service in the evenings for older people Hmmmm wonder where I can find me some old people! usually they get people to do this for free though don't they?
Babysitting - quite a bit of money to be made from that Actually really want to do this again, but how do you think I would find people? Was thinking maybe a flier and putting it through letter boxes.
Library books - the ones you sold. You seemed to make quite a bit from that Need another sale to buy more stock. Although NIM might disown me!
Maths/English/French grinds etc etc - any of you good at a school subject? Not really, or not ones people pay for tutors for. Hes good at maths but he doesn't have time.

NIM thinks I should focus on the painting but I'm lacking in faith. I would have to sell at least 8 prints a week to make the same amount as a part time job. That seems unlikelt.

Can't think of any more. I think 12K is a lot to earn over and above what you are doing already. You want to have a a life as well as save for a house and wedding. But we'd never save any more money to buy a house. Also we don't want a baby in rented accomodation! Currently we're thinking we are going to have to buy a house after the wedding, and just ask for money towards our deposit as a wedding present. My mum and dad lived with her parents for a few months after the wedding so its not the end of the world, but not ideal.

Feeling very blue this afternoon. Want to get NIM a birthday present, because he'll do anything for me and gets so little in return, but I don't know how to afford it. Last year I would have bought it and worried later, but now I just feel like a witch for only spending about £15 on his birthday.

(i am so good at trying to reason and justify spending lol) and we got some bargains.. I got 20% off my ugg boots and they are really cute, and i got some amazing gold platform heels in topshop sale they make me so so tall!!and i got a hollister mini demin skirt, and some bargain tops from an overrun at a market, and a brand new asos top for 50p and some gap shorts for 50p (theyre a little too tight !! :( ) and a dress from republic which had some marks on it but they have washed off so it was only a fiver.. I got loads of new stuff lately but now i have to deal with the financial damage!! (while looking great in my new stuff :P ) but yesterday i dropped my mobile down the toilet so thats not good!! i think she is dead so i need to get a new one but using the boys old one atm!

You don't need to spend money to make it special Dinah!

I'll try and get my thinking cap on about making money. To be honest i'm seriously lagging in that area myself so you'll most likely just get the same things you already know. Have you sorted out things for the carboot yet? On the first one we did we (me and my dad!) made about £200 so it's really worth it if you have the time and the stuff! Saying that sometimes it can be so slow and you only make about £30, but it's still money you didn't have for stuff you didn't want.
