polly sorry to see you have a bad back - take it gently - i hope it improves soon.
Sunnygirl What about phoning the RSPCA for advice about getting rid of your squirrels - they might have humane ways of destroying them - dont know if they will help but its a thought! They might be able to lend you a trap.

sexy have just been catching up and saw your amended post - you will be fine on the day - its only natural to be nervous this is a bit different from supply - but think how well you managed that - you were going to all sorts of different schools and not knowing what to expect!
herewegoagain (((hugs))) for you - thats ridiculous that you couldnt have time off - its up to company to sort out cover - if you had been in an accident or somthing you wouldnt have been able to go to work and they would have HAD to cover for you - you will take longer to get back on your feet not being able to rest so be careful not to over do things.
embb I love my carpet - it has transformed the room - I am excited - how sad:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
lady L - how are you angel?
Penny crackling is gorgeous - not that I am very keen on big pigs but piglets are lovely
Elly you are a very strong lady and its a sad situation for you but I am sure you will come through it - keep asking for help from the authorities - keep banging away until they help you and DD - the others have commented far better than I can - my thoughts are with you xx
kazw your garden is just fantastic - you should be very proud of it - what a lovely relaxing haven xx
gsysezz ther are some good deals out there for mobile broadband that come with a free laptop! of what about asking on freecycle - someone might have upgraded
triker glad you have been signed off for a month - you will only do yourself more harm by going back too early and it will give you time to slowly sort things out at home and in your life so you are less stressed (((hugs)))
embb glad FIL is ok and feeling the better of his pacemaker - and the puddy too - she will be enjoy getting outside ( hugs) for both
blueberrypie that is excellent what you have done with the children and their allowances - i especiallyt like the lending with 'interest' - well done to your children for being good at budgeting:T
fedup that is so good to hear - when you look back at how you were at the start you must see a huge difference - well done for sticking with it and I am delighted for you that you are feeling better (((hugs)))
feefee - well done for making 5 minutes for your self - try to do that as often as possible - it will keep you going. and apply for everything that you can - is there any hope of improvement - it must be heart breaking for you and his family - we are here whenever you want to rant.

Have we got any flyladies near Rotherham that could lend feefee a hand??????

bonsibabe hope you have a better sleep and the kitchen gets better after tomorrow
jinky glad you got your appt with the doc - be sure to tell him everyhting. (((hugs)))

I havent had one for a while actually:cool:

As for the crying its a bit of both actually, I KNOW I am over reacting to things that wouldnt normally have that effect:o

Oh i can cry walking down the street, but let someone actually see me?:eek::eek::o:rotfl:

If you can explain it to the GP like that it may help - I rang mine one morning and asked whether it could be a side-effect, as it started 6 hours after taking the first tablet. I was told that it was, but not a very common one, and that I should stop taking them. Obviously not an option in your case, but hopefully they can adjust the medication accordingly - hopefully the irrational tears are bringing you down, and if they can stop those, you might feel better.

I've just been reading the spider thread  and have contributed. But I'm not too scared too move from my desk, let alone go out onto the landing, down the stairs and into the loo :o

    Hi all,

Just a short one to say it might be lodgercats last visit to the vets tomorrow :-( I had originally booked him in to see the vet for yet another consultancy over his illness and possibly a mouth problem now. But he seems to have taken a bit of a turn downhill this afternoon/evening. All he keeps doing is going to sleep in weird places, he has even gone upstairs tonight. Now bearing in mind since I have had him (from May) he hasn't been allowed upstairs by my bruiser of a tom Ollie. Now he is wandering up there and going to sleep in weird corners. He has just come out of the spare room, had a drink and is now stretched out next to the airing cupboard door. I have had a weep, okay a really good sob, as I am not sure if he will be coming back with me from the vets.I am hoping for a miracle at the vets, as in they can get him eating again etc..so I am truly hoping that he has perked up by tomorrow morning as this will be the hardest decision I have to make, bearing in mind he had originally come to me just to lodge for a while while his owner was waiting to buy her new house in Bristol. He is now mine due to the fact that I have been paying all his vets bills etc, and as she can't/won't cough up his fees due to not being able to - highly unlikely as she has all her household bills and rent paid for by the MOD.

Hmm Dave and I have just had a thought, how did lodgercat (Fred) know where to go to the water bowl upstairs, if he has only been up stairs once, plus he doesn't like his own water bowl much preferring to use the dog bowl down here normally. We are now wondering if he goes upstairs when I am not at home.

Sorry to put a bit of a downer on the post :-(

Piggers can see your point but teaching has become so !!!!!! in the last few years with a huge emphasis on statistics rather than on building relationships with children and teaching for the joy of sharing knowledge that our long 6 week break is about the only thing which gets some of us through the very many !!!!!! parts of the school year. I personally would like 2 weeks in May so I could go abroad for 2 weeks/10 days and 2 weeks in October then 4 weeks in the summer but hey ho I am a very small cog in a huge machine!

Exactly.. the holiday companies take advantage of the same facts and exploit those who have little income and little choice as to when they take holidays. I think even that solution would be easier for the children to handle and some authorities are trialing schemes like this to see how they fare. A shorter holiday means less time getting children back into the routine of learning and behaving inthe classroom too.. or at least the teachers at our school believe it would help.

There are also MUCH less appealing jobs who have significantly fewer holidays and with all due respect people choose teaching as a career knowing the pitfalls and down sides to the job.. I'd be more concerned about catching headlice and children vomitting on me.. but then I'm not daft enough to do the job in the first place lol. Give me a vial of blood and a sample bottle of poop any day lol Though I have heard student teachers say they hate the job and working with children but they want to teach because they get decent holidays, their main aim when asked is to have a headship or consultative role ... That is the mentality that creates the schools with the bad reputation and it is so sad for the children and the staff who want to do well.

I do appreciate what the teachers do for my children but I still firmly believe 6-7 weeks is too long for children, staff and parents too.. the same number of weeks could be had but spread more evenly like you suggest. This would discourage holiday companies being so hard on those who can only get away at certain times of the year, and also take pressure off as the teachers would be able to spend more time with their own families throughout the year instead of seeing them for 6-7 weeks over the summer and running off their feet the other 46 weeks, longer holidays during the academic year would also mean instead of mad planning every weekend or cramming it into the short holidays there could be time for planning and their own families so the staff would benefit too.

Some of the schools here have summer schools run by supply staff who need more experience or who have no desire to be off all summer, but only the children from those schools can attend. The summer playschemes are often to expensive for most families, and most low income families struggle to go away for a holiday and if you have no transport you are basically screwed as far as days out go, says I, with mine who cannot keep their stomach contents in situ for more than 3 miles!.

So while I do see you point about it being the only thing that keeps them going all year, I cannot help but feel if that is the case then they are in the wrong job.. working for the holidays seems very wrong for all concerned, but does explain the apathy a lot of teachers appear to have.

Bear in mind here we here have just about the worst schools in the country and have been at the bottom of the league tables year on year and struggle to get the 'good' staff.. many of the schools employ NQT's because noone else will apply, many do a magnificent job in extremely difficult circumstances with very trying youngsters. This results in the youngsters playing up because they know they are new and are only there for experience and will be gone as soon as they possibly can be. They are then faced with 7 weeks of doing nothing.. it isn't very inspiring.

But I also think school ought to be compulsory up to 18.. or maybe have to reach a certain level before they can 'graduate' such as they have in Germany.

ETA.. that was a rather substantial waffle.. sorry lol.. it is so much easier to explain in person than write it here and try not to offend anyone as that is not my intention.. I'm not that subtle :p

Now I need to check my gremlins are asleep and harpic the loo's... I hate dirty toilets and hate cleaning them.. but I do it for the results.. :p .. see.. just like teaching :p
