My leanings have always be bearish. I have stock market investments and a house.

I just can`t see that the bubble in the housing market was/ is sustainable.

Along similar lines, I love a glass of red wine, some nice cheese and good crackers. Three of my favourite things in fact. But as much as a fan that I am, I couldn't advocate consuming them 24/7 in a big cheesey, alcolhol induced frenzy, as that isn't sustainable either.

Erm. That metaphor lost its way in the middle somewhere. Apologies for that.

I'm still trying to make my mind up if that's a compliment or not:D, I do have my tin foil hat days that's for sure, but I'd be happy for my predictions on the coming energy crisis for instance to be proved wrong, I mean christ I'd be lost without my plasma, PS3, Ipod etc..... it would not be much fun sitting around a camp fire with all of civilisation burning around us and me lifting my head and looking at Julie, Cleaver and the rest of you guys and saying........... 'see I was right'.:D

    Just off on a tangent...

Can you imagine going to Apple's headquarters in, say, the late-eighties and having a meeting with their development team about portable music?

"Right guys and girls, within ten or fifteen years I need you to design a portable device that can carry, ooh, let's say 32,000 songs on it. How you ask? I have no idea, that's your job".

"Well, a walkman can only play about 20 songs?"

"Not my problem my geeky friend. Oh, did I also mention that it can have no moving parts, needs to be the same size as a credit card and the battery needs to last a week? Anyway, good luck..."

    "Erm..."

I always imagine the energy crisis will be sorted the same way. Seems impossible now, but someone will work something out. They always do.

(I realise that my last comment is the one that is always quoted by the doomsters as the classic, ignorant line. But I don't care, I think someone will sort something out. In the same way those people at Apple did.)

I reckon given a few minutes I could fit a ghetto blaster up there or it would be fun trying.

When your sex life starts to seek real extremes for satisfaction I think you need to take a step back and ask yourself some stark questions.

You're right. Looks like I hadn't really "thought it through".

However I was factoring an element of sphincter tightening that losing a large amount of money could cause.

On the other hand, when I've made predictions I've had them spot on, which is because I have a reasonable insight into what is happening in particular parts of the economy, and enough wit to sew things together holistically rather than extrapolating straight lines down into the abyss. I'm far more interested in working out what happens next based on observations of events and an essentially contrarian viewpoint rather than hoping that something that may be good for particular people happens and cherry picking evidence to support that thesis.

You wouldnt give us a hand with the next Euromillions would you Julie - my numbers never seem to come up these days.

    What a load of rubbish.

The bulls wish prosperity, full employment, economic growth, and financial success for everyone.

The bears wish recessions, asset price crashes, negative equity and unemployment on everyone else, so they can pick up a bargain.

Bears are contemptible creatures. Utterly despicable.

It would be lovely if the first part (re bulls) were true. Unfortunately, there appear to be too many bulls (or whatever you want to call them) on here who seem to derive greatest happiness from the earnest wish that bears on here never own property - I've lost count of the number of 'losers!' type attacks I've received and read on here. People who, sadly, only believe themselves rich if they can feel that someone else is poorer; who gloat endlessly (pickledpink was a good example) about the huge detached house/s they own, which the bears on here would 'never be able to afford'. Their joy in owning these things appears to be tied directly to others' lack of them.

Personally, speaking as someone (I think) classified as a bear, all that means to me is that I think houses are still overvalued relative to incomes and will have further to fall. I don't want anyone to be worse off as a result, although obviously, if prices fall, as I believe they will, this will impact negatively on those who bought at the peak - it's inevitable.

As a result of my views, I'm holding off buying for now - I fail to see how that makes me 'despicable'. It either makes me 'canny', if you think I'm right in my predictions, or 'foolish' if I'm wrong. No more, no less. I don't want a recession, unemployment or anything else; I just believe that house prices are still overvalued and will correct, possibly with some of those side effects, unfortunately. My belief this will happen doesn't mean that I either think it's great! or that I am personally responsible for these effects.

It's just how things are, and I see no advantage to be gained by hiding one's head in the sand.

I can agree with you there, in the longer term I think there are solutions to these problems. While earths resources are limited, the universes are near infinite.
