Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.
I've reported your post to Abuse - the OP came here asking for advice - not abusive language. Ultimately MSE is NOT about condoning fraud or any other form of breaking the law.

  • please do not encourage her to become a childminder, she will be giving childminders a bad name! The childcare for reward is a dodgy area whether it's family or not, We have many grandparents registered where i live so that they can recieve payment for caring for their grandchildren.

Yes she is commiting fraud and yes someone should report her! I don't care what some of the others have said, I work hard as does my husband, my choice. I pay to put my children into high quality childcare, which I get no help with, my choice. In addition to working full time, I am on the final module for my degree, which I am paying for, I get no help, I have paid N I contributions and TAx since the age of 18 and get sodd all back for it, so yes I am annoyed when someone who is sat on their "!!!!" all day is working for a little bit extra money cash in hand! Fraud is fraud.

    Sorry rant over :o

What abusive language (could have been a lot worse?) Its Bluejakes opinion at the end of the day?

Not sure where you live but I think round here that generally "dreadful spiteful obnoxious self righteous busy body" is not a term of endearment or anything short of extreemly rude and abusive...

Rule of thumb: Would you say it to a 7 foot+ bodybuilders face? If the answer is no... then it's probably on the wrong side of polite let alone nice :)

  • I don't think I would report her. Would you be upset if her well-off sister gave her money to help out or bought her shopping to help out? They're two sisters doing each other a favour. Would you rather your niece/nephew went without? My brother lost his job and he and his partner are expecting their fist child. Should they be declaing to the job centre that our family are buying things in preparation because they can't afford it? He looked after my dogs for a few days last week rather than me put them in kennels - should he declare that?

What business is it of anyone else and indeed the state what favours and help families do for each other?

The levels of benefit are intended to provide an adeqaute amount of income for people to live on.
They are paid for by taxpayers.

Some taxpayers get less than the level of benefit and still have to pay tax.

So, should someone commit benefit fraud to get extra money without declaring it?

Or maybe some employees should take money from other taxpayers by theft to top up their income? Where would it all end? Should we all rob each other and just say "It's hard for me so it's ok"?

Should he declare it? Depends on why you helped them.

If you helped them out with some purchases just because you wanted to, that's fine - it's a voluntary payment.
If you paid them for looking after the dogs it's payment for something in return.
This person is getting £50 a week, or £2600 a year.

There are people paying tax to support that person getting benefits to add to their £2600 a year. Let's say they have 2 kids; £200 a week in income support, child benenfit and tax credits; £150 a week in housing benefit and council tax. £400 a week.

meanwhile a single bloke earning £150 a week net, paying £50 a week in rent for a room in a house has to pay tax and ends up with £100 a week to live on whilst working. No allownaces for his travel or lunch at work, or for the fact that he's making a contribution rather than not doing.
