we only have Carolt's side of this tale - and as we know from this, and other, threads, she is prone to exaggeration and a bit of hysteria now and again
The average price of a gas check is £50-£100 a LL would have to be nuts to use a non registered individual and knowingly receive a forged document. Risk a tenant's life and put your liberty at risk, nah, you would still have to pay the forgers fee, where's the saving............
GET IT? :rolleyes:0 -
So why does the OP not report it instead of coming on here and moaning about it.Why does she not chase the landlord for the gas certificate and mention it in the telephone conversations she has with him instead of crying about it on here.Does she think anyone on these boards will get hold of the landlord for her?
OPs come here to ask questions as this OP did. All of the questions I've ever seen asked on this forum can be answered by sources elsewhere, few if any can be solved by forum members doing the work for the OP. Usually all any of us can do is give them some ideas of what direction to look in, links to information, and answer simple questions that have standard answers.
Thanks to this thread the OP now has the law clear on gas certificates plus a sample letter and has said she will write to request the certificate, seems fair enough to me.
Why aren't you, for example, on Welshwoofs thread suggesting she not come on here and "moan" as we can't give her legal advice in her complex case? Why aren't you accusing her of tall tales (it's the most unbelievable story running recently IMO, but as fact can be stranger than fiction I'm not going to accuse her of lying and I do believe her). Is it perhaps because she isn't a tenant
This is a discussion forum where things get err ..... discussed, people then follow cases that catch their eye. Reading threads you don't like isn't mandatory so why waste your time on this thread to the tune of 35 posts from you on this thread in two days0 -
Yes-and moan and complain when told the truth.Besides this is an open forum and everyone has a right to extress their views and post.It is only some that seek to stifle debate.
The same could be said for frank. Why ddoes he spend so much time on this thread? Maybe he wishes to see the OP in her pyjamas !
And I also find it incredible that he has so much time on his hands he can trawl through and count my posts on this forum at 2 am in the morning.
Besides why is he getting so worked up on behalf of the OP? Or is there more here than that meets the eye?0 -
Looks like the roof didn't cave in after all.And despite the asthma, the OP seems to have enough time to continue posting.0

""Anyone carrying out work on gas must be registered with Gas Safe Register.""
but no one who was unqualified carried out any work on CarolT's boiler !!!
Er, yes he did. I didn't find out he was unregistered until after he'd opened up my boiler and started messing around, actually. Why not check your facts before spouting nonsense?
What are you going to tell GASSAFE - "he turned up but when we realised he was not qualified we sent him away"? where is the crime here ???? get a grip
we only have Carolt's side of this tale - and as we know from this, and other, threads, she is prone to exaggeration and a bit of hysteria now and again
Really? Proof, please of 'hysteria'? What a sadly offensive thing to say. Until this thread, clutton, I'd always had respect for you and your views. I'd thought you wre one of the 'good' band of landlords who actually regarded tenants as fellow human beings rather than some lower species of 'hysterical' liars - as you've accused me of being. I'd like to think you had the decency to be ashamed of your posts here. You've really lowered yourself here. Very sad.
Only registered gas engineers own the required paperwork to complete for the safety check, each Certificate is numbered and only Registered guys are allow to buy these certificates - there is stringent security around getting hold of them - so - no one can get them who is not a qualified gas engineer.
""Thankfully my landlord uses a reputable firm of registered engineers to do the gas safety.""
Franklee you are very fortunate - there are tens of thousands of registered and qualified gas engineers - and - as in any business - some will cut corners. i went through 4 different guys before settling on my current chap, who i would describe as much more than reputable. I have come across British Gas engineers who cut so many corners it was unbelievable, and i have come across a few really excellent engineers.
Just because they are registered does not mean they are all as diligent as they should be...
However the exams needed to qualify are getting more stringent, so lets hope these shoddy ways become a thing of the past.
i tried to complain about 2 of the others to CORGI - they didn't give a stuff.... lets see if GASSAFE turn out to be any better ......

Shame on you. Why on earth anyone would bother wasting life inventing imaginary leaks - maybe there are those of you with so little life to waste that you'd rather spend a beautiful weekend posting abuse to random strangers than enjoying it. Poor you.
Personally, I got some very useful tips and answers to my questions from several posters on here - thanks so much to the many who answered constructively. To anyone who actually cares, (can that be anyone?!), I am awaiting a call-back from my landlord about a time for the plumber to come back; he's been filled in on the current situation (the landlord, that is), and at my request, is coming round to view the problem tomorrow. I am hopeful the leak will be resolved this week; the redecoration will obviously take much longer, as you can't repaint and possibly replaster a ceiling until it's all dried out.
I now declare this thread closed.
If anyone is still so thrilled by the subject they wish to continue discussing the subject of my kitchen ceiling, then please feel free to continue ad infinitum. I have better things to do.
Saddos only, please post below:0 -
I believe the questions were answered within a few posts.Unfortunately the OP did not get to hear what she wanted to.She was hoping that everyone would say how horrible the landlord was and how he was making her suffer. So the story then changed to mould, roof caving in,door cannot be closed, etc.Instead to spending time venting spleen on here, the OP could have rung the landlord and then would not have made a fool of herself on this board.Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.
I really find it amusing when people declare threads closed just because it is not going in the direction they want it to go and cast aspersions on people who post.0 -
since this thread is now closed, Carolt will not be able to see that i an in no way ashamed of any of my responses on this thread ..... i say an initial "drip" problem being described in larger and larger terms and more Grandiose claims made as the thread went on
it is interesting that i am the only one singled out for personal attack when several others echoed my own views
but then i am a landlord - scum of the earth when all said and done - so i must deserve it .....
I'm housing a 19 year old today who has just come out of nick ......0 -
I don't think it is closed!
But best not to get into slanging matches and leave emotions out of it. Offer advice I say is the order of the day and not get personal.:D

Clutton-you horrible landlord. Repent of your wicked ways or the wrath of carolt will be upon you !!!0 -
i recall once having an "emergency" call that the landing ceiling had collapsed around everyone's heads and dire danger was to hand .......
turned out to be a 9"sq bit of plasterboard that had come down due to a leak in the roof - the tenant had seen the water stains on the ceiling for weeks but not thought to let me know
even tho my guys were there within 4 hours to effect a temporary repair - the tenants boyfriend still threatened to sue me ........
"go ahead" i said
still waiting0
