Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 21st August! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

confetti2.gifWell done to everyones children and grandchildren who got the results they wanted, and commiserations to those who didn't.

Was supposed to be raining yestoday but we lucked out and got another day of lovely sunshine. My godson finally finished the fence painting so I have a lovely lavender picket fence and the back fence has also been done. I am seriously contemplating painting some of the older plastic tubs with the left over paint:rotfl:.

www.olahelland.net/giraffes/ Found this on another thread and thought I would post it on here too. It just looks like such fun, and something to do with the kids!
I made corned beef pasties last night for the first time. And they tasted great! We used up a couple of potatoes that weren't enough for a meal, some onion, garlic and a green pepper from the garden with bog standard shortcrust pastry. We made four pasties so that is two meals plus wnough left for sandwiches today. Really pleased.
Had some garden time yestoday and harvested some more radishes, my first beetroot, loads of strawberries and a couple more green peppers. Then I sat and braided all my shallots into braids a bit like you see garlic tied. I found a site online that showed you how and it was really easy once you got into the rhythm.
Anyway, Tris has just logged on so I will go say hi. Warm gentlegrouphug3.gifto anyone who needs one today.

Morning Diva you lucky devil you, it bucketed it down here yesterday with strong winds and it was too warm to wear a coat without sweating.Still managed to struggle into town though:D

Well looking out the living room window at the dark grey and gloomy clouds I sort of get the idea its going to be another miserable day.I could do with getting to the school uniform shop today and getting the bits of school uniform that ES is missing. Why do secondary schools have to get so up themselves that they choose a uniform that is so fearsomely expensive that most working class families have to put themselves in financial meltdown to afford it? I mean why do they have to have navy shorts with a flaming school badge on that costs £12 when you can pick up normal navy shorts for a fiver? It makes me want to spit it really does:mad:

On a domestic front I desperately need to deskank the whole house and put the yoghurt maker on.I've also got a pretty impressive pile of ironing to do as well.Heyho sitting here wont get it done so have a good day everyone

Morning MSD and others who follow!
Wide awake at 5, made a cuppa and read for a bit.
The shingles have spread a bit, got some in the small of my back and others on m leg. It really hurts!:o Stll, taking the pills and using the cream. Hope it clears up soon.

Just getting my stuff together o see my MS Welfare officer today. She is gonna help me fill in the appea form for ESA, after they decided that I have a "limited capability for work" I've photocopied the neuro's report and the occ health report, and highlighted the bit in the occ health repot that says Does have a reduced likelihood of being capable of obtaining other gainful employment, whether in local government or elsewhere, before age 65" The next sentance says "As a result of their ill health or infirmity, there is no reasonable prospct of the employee named in part A being capable of obtaining gainful employment before age 65" despite this, they stil put me in the work group!!

    It's not that I don't want work, I just know I can't. Hope the appeal is successful:o

    Anyway, enough of my woes:rotfl:
    Happy Birthday Catznine bdaycake2.gif

molly - Congrats to your son
Penpin - hope you are feeling better soon,
maybe we should console each other:rotfl::rotfl:

Seeing OH this evening, so that's good, and going to see my oldest friend tomorrow, she's now 50 too. We met on the first day of Primary School 45 years ago, and she and her hubby are my childrens' Godparents.

Have a good weekend to you all!

    Morning peeps

so far so good weatherwise, it is sunny and dry :j for how long i`ve no idea although i have put a load in the washing machine with my fingers crossed.

just myself and younger houndie are up so far so pretty peaceful here with the radio playing away in the background, think that i shall tackle the small pile of ironing that i have before it multiplies. Later i can run DH to w*rk before walking the hounds and then have the rest of the morning in the kitchen.

I didn`t manage to get the plum jam made yesterday as it was quite late when our visitors left, lovely to see them though. The jam will be made later today - the time will depend on the weather.

The greenhouse is in a bit of a mess - fallen leaves everywhere and bits of gravel that have found their way in so hopefully i can have a bit of a clean in there without disturbing too much. I also intend to plant some chilli seeds, bit late i know but my intention is to bring them indoors over winter and put them back outside next year. The cat has always stopped me having inside plants as she has always chewed them to bits but i`m hoping now that shes older she won`t bother.

Right off to plug in the iron :D

    Have a good day peeps.

    Hi Guys,
Thankyou for your good wishes for my kids exam results. My son came in a couple of hours ago so no doubt he will not surface until much later today and will be feeling quite delicate.

Hilstep - I do hope that your meeting goes well. Its so stressful...I fully appreciate how you feel.

Im hoping for a very quiet day today as I had some treatment yesterday and it has left me very sore even though im not supposed to be able to feel it! I have also spent what feels to be a vast amount of money on kids so am keeping my purse tightly shut today. Their dad is taking them swimming and McD as a treat (they doing the promo on glasses) so Ive given instructions what to ask for.

My son asked me to chase up his Reading ticket which hasn't arrived yet so need to be brave as i get quite worried when I have to make official phone calls. Im such a baby at the moment - not myself at all!

Hope everyone has a peaceful day.
    Molly
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

    Morning Everyone

    :j:beer:Have a great Birthday Catznine:beer::j

Its Friday :T Really appreciate getting to the end of the week nowdays as work is so manic Sat & Sun are the only days I know the phone wont ring. Because of work & the kids the housework has not been touched all week. Today OH is at home & has announced that he will be doing a big tidy up and hoover:j I get the job of going to Lakeside :D as DD was too unwell yesterday. However I have promised him that I will bring Krispy Kreme donuts home as a reward.

The weather is lovely so loads of washing will be done today, will try and get some ironing done later as need to meet a new driver tomorrow at work.Sunday is meant to be very hot again so will be making plans to go somewhere & make the most of the last of the holidays. Have a friends 21st Saturday night so going to be a busy weekend.

I am enjoying the holidays much more the weather has kicked in but am looking forward to catching up with myself in September and some peace and quiet.

Anyway, Gammon for tea tonight as ended up changing the menu plan again.

Off now, have a great Friday all.

I walked round the zoo and had a leisurely ride on the little train :o. it tipped it down with rain for about 10 mins ( i was tucked away inside with a hot chocolate :D) all in all a good day I took a picnic so didnt spend too much there)

    Good morning everyone:wave:

And a very happy birthday to Catznine:bdaycake:

Friday!! Yippee I can have some wine tonight:beer: We're trying to cut down on the holiday excess and I haven't had any since Sunday;)

OK, today will be spent mostly listening to the cricket and hoping England can get a few more runs before we're all bowled out.

I've got laundry to do as usual and it is a nice sunny drying day. I'm really enjoying pegging out at the moment because I've just replaced my tatty plastic peg basket (which had a makeshift string handle) and brittle plastic pegs that were breaking at a rate of one a day with a cream enamel retro style peg bucket and a load of wooden pegs including some old-fashioned dolly pegs. You can get everything on Amazon:D It's funny the difference these changes have made, it was the same when I got a retro style flowery ironing board cover lol:rolleyes:

Foodwise I think we'll have beans on toast for lunch. Tea will be onion bhajis, split pea dhal and rice. Probably my cheapest meal this week:T I don't do deep-frying very often. I'm hoping to get away with sort of waist-depth frying IYKWIM using my wok.

    Have a good morning all;)

I hope you are feeling better Penny Pincher.
