So how much better is this model than say the Hitachi TRK100 http://www.richersounds.co.uk/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=HITA-TRK100
which is half the price ?
Just wondering whether I can justify the extra £40 on the Bug??

There are some good comments about the Hitachi here..

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303773&highlight=Hitachi+TRK100

It would be a hard choice.

Benefits of the Bug are a) unique design b) updateable software c) can record programs d) can play MP3.

Benefits of the Hitachi are a) cheap b) FM included c) can run from batteries

People tend to think DAB is the bees knees but the quality of reception varies hugely between models/manuafcturers. Pure seem to be consistently good. I haven't tried the Hitachi... but from the comments on avforums it seems a good buy.

The Bug records onto an SD card, so it is like video for radio. It also has a good choice of alarms and sleep timer. Pure radios have better reception than all others, which means you get more stations to listen to, and the sound quality is good and does not distort on full volume, but is still loud. It is much more than just a radio. It is a Bug

Searcher2, thanks for your reply. So are you saying it wil play CD's recorded to MP3? If thats true, whats the indexing like - can I put MP3's into folders so that I can play an album for example? If so this sounds like a great benefit to me :-)

It plays any MP3's whether from CD or not. However, the indexing is fairly non-existent. Maybe in future software releases it is better but it just has a list of what's on the SD card and plays them in order. You can choose where you start to play the tracks from in the list. I have one SD card with an album on, one with relaxing music and one for recording programs.

Seems the grey one is back in stock but at the new price of £121.64..yikes!!

I have edited main post now as Amazon only have the white model in stock.

Amazon price has also increased to £89.49, so well done all those that got in early.

(The current grey one is not actually sold by Amazon, but a marketplace seller.)

Well my one-eyed graphite bug will be going back to Amazon it seems. They don't have any more stock of the graphite, so can only offer a refund. Pure sent me a very polite email giving me the option of sending it to them (at my expense) and waiting 20 days for it to be repared! I've since emailed again asking about a swap for a new one as the one I've been sent arrived with a fault, but have not heard back.

Tonight after another few emails to Amazon, they have agreed to place a new order for the white option at the higher cost. I should send back the faulty one, once both have taken place contact them again and they'll refund the difference (including my gift certificate!).

So hoping this works out I'll have a white one after all. Nothing against the white, but I'll have to find somewhere for it well away from all my black/grey equipment! :)

Amazon are pretty good with returns/refunds in my experience, so is probably the quickest option.

I would be happy with the white if there was no grey in stock, but then I am not really worried about everything matching. :)

I found a white Bug here for £79.99 inc postage

There are plenty of important improvements according to Jason Voice their Technical Support Manager:

"There are a lot of changes in v2.0 – too many to list all of them – but the following list covers the more obvious ones.

    - Added Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) for viewing 7-day programme listings and easy recording.
    - Improved alarm and timer functions - now increasing to 20 events.
    - Improved alarm function, with the addition of "wake up to MP3 track or recorded radio", in addition to tone and DAB alarms.
    - Improved timed record events by allowing the continuation of recording regardless of standby state.
    - Scrolling DAB text can be now be paused and manually scrolled via textSCAN (TM).
    - Improved overall SD compatibility.
    - Improved overall USB compatibility.
    - Full directory navigation added to improve SD card file management.
    - Added track "Shuffle" and "Repeat" options for SD playback.
    - Improvements to menu access such as alarm and timer events while in standby."

I knew you men would prefer the grey one.. :rotfl: my OH has no choice in the matter.. the radio is mine!! can understand that a white bug would feel severely !!!!!! off among all grey/silver stuff so best off leaving them alone eh?! :D

Hope you get your grey one then.. let us know if you do and what you think! I've just been cleaning in the kitchen (no surprise there then) and whacked it right up.. these DAB's are a real revelation aren't they? proper good quality! :T

    Yay! I finally have a two eye'd bug! :)

Amazon and Pure both agreed to solve my issue on the same day, but not before the replacement white one was already in the post. As I like it so much it's looking like I'll have one of each colour as I can't bring myself to choose between the graphite and the white now :)

Off to install the new firmware :)
