Well, first thing might be to chuck out any actual rubbish, recycle any newspapers and magazines and gradually free up the floor

After that, I'd remove any delicate ornaments and generally free up surfaces for a good dusting.

Then some dusting, then a thorough hoover, then another cup of tea
