You clearly dont read and understand posts, are you smoking something other than fags???

I shouldnt have my actions dictated by smokers either....it works BOTH ways dear

I shouldnt have to constantly cross roads in a wheelchair (which at times isnt possible), or avoid busy areas etc because you are stopping my enjoyment of a public place.

Its an offence to drink in public, because it prevents people from enjoying the area and you can get arrested for it

its an offence to breach the peace/public order etc etc because its ruining peoples enjoyment of an area

I have no quams of smokers smoking away from main entrances and places I cannot avoid, or in there own home etc - that doesnt bother me. I just think public places should be fair for everyone. Im prevented from walking round naked in the park for everyones benefit, so what those anti-naked people are dictating my life??

Are you really this inconsiderate? do you smoke at the entrances to places? i.e. hospitals???

and dont refer to me as 'dear' or play the old 'im in a wheelchair' card. as already stated im disabled myszelf and i dont give 2 figs wether the smoker or non smoker is capable of walking.

and how dare you suggest i smoke anything other than fags.

how abouts i play the mental illness card over your disability one and tell you how insulted i am about what you have just said.

think about it. you just overstepped the mark regards the whole mental health issue. 'are you smoking something other than fags'. what business is it of yours if i have a mental illness. but you chose to judge.

    get off your high horse.

    I am wheelchair bound

Which ofcourse means, I cant offroad it to negociate round a group of smokers on a path, nor can I take certain routes because of unstable ground.

I find it hard enough negociating round normal town/city streets and cant just cross the road at anytime, because I need a ramp.

    So !!!!!!.

I AM ALSO PERMANENTLY IN AN ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR

I don't seem to have a problem, I get around fine in towns or city street, most have dropped pavements. I have also offroaded, may I suggest that you get a better wheelchair?

Oh, and I am also a smoker!

I thought the smoking ban said was illegal to smoke in a public place that was enclosed or substantially enclosed so bus shelters I guess would count as substantially enclosed

You are correct. If a bus shelter is 'substantially enclosed' it is illegal to smoke in it, just like any other public building.

It is certainly the case that all bus shelters in the Birmingham area display those signs stating 'It is against the law to smoke in this shelter'. This is the case no matter how enclosed they are as they have chosen to prohibit smoking in all of them.

i smoked outside a bus shelter once purposely so as not to bother anyone and a woman came and stood beside me and started tutting

i was nowhere near anyone and she chose to stand next to me

    you cant win really

As one of the ardent non-smokers on here... I completely agree with you, surprisingly. Well... ish.

Let people do what they want. If someone wants to walk down the street puffing on a cig then that is their choice.

So I get no choice in being smoked around? I want to walk down the street without inhaling smoke.

This is a smoking discussion thread. Thats very unpleasant. You should be ashamed to stoop so low.
    Reported.

Well... you're right, but really it's no less abusive than many posts on here (I've actually also reported the thread as whole). And the person being addressed has been one of the most offensive people I've encountered in a long time (on- and off-line).

My guess is that this thread will be locked VERY soon. On the one hand I'm glad because I can devote my time to looking at other threads on the forum. On the other hand, until the abuse started it WAS an interesting thread.

And we had seemed to reach a peaceful, respectful disagreement a couple of pages back. Then the troll started up again. Oh, well.

I had a long post typed out and it hasn't posted.

I'm sorrry that this thread has started to degenerate and there are some really some spiteful nasty posts.

I can see both sides, the non smokers and the smokers area always going to disagree.

Until such times as the owners of the pubs/restraunts/shops, move the ashtrays that they have placed beside doorways then there is no way smokers are going to move. That is where they have been told to smoke and that is where they will continue to smoke.

I know, from reading these posts, that the traffic argument is not holding water with the non smokers, but here in Scotland there are adverts on the TV showing children with masks standing next to the pavement with a car exhaust asking for people to inform on drivers who are sitting with their car engines running. There are no adverts asking for people to inform on people who are smoking outside. Infact car exhausts are more harmful to children outside than smokers are. Children are at a level of the car exhaust and in most cases if smokers are standing outside, then unless they are crouching down, its hardly likely that smokers are blowing smoke in their faces.
    Smile, you are beautiful:)
