I just get annoyed at smokers staning at the entrance to bars that have designated smoking areas. Come on guys, let us get into the pub please. I could understand if there wasnt a huge covered smoking area. :(

Humans have spent thousands of years in perfecting ways to kill each other, smoking is just one of them.

It seems petty to me that people assume smokers go around blowing smoke in others faces.

I don't smoke, I have friends who do and I can categorically state in all my life, I have neither had smoke deliberately blown in my face NOR have I ever seen a Smoker walk up-to a NON smoker and deliberately blow smoke in their face. And I live in a BIG City full of smokers.

If a Smoker deliberately walked upto me and blew smoke in my face, I can assure you it wouldn't be a fart I would be shoving in his or her face ;)

Sure if a smoker walks upto you and blows smoke in your face, feel free to fart in theirs. In the meantime feel just as free as the rest of us, to break wind in the street.

I gave up in 1979, best thing I have EVER done, I find it a foul habit, and why should these people affect the air that I breathe???.

Whilst I agree that cars do pollute the air, I think breathing in cigarette smoke is completly different. Unless your walking right behind a car, next to the exhaust pipe, I don't think you can compare them. Also I live in a quiet village, so exhaust fumes aren't really a problem for me.

Today for example, me and my sister went in to town shoping as we normally do on a Saturday. The town centre was very busy, several times we had smokers in front of us and the smoke was blowing in our faces. Having to walk into shops through smoky doorways is disgusting and makes my eyes sting! Me and my sister had never smoked and don't know why we have to breath it in just because we choose to go shopping? We are doing nothing at all to affect anybody else in town, the same cannot be said for smokers!

I don't think it should be banned, but I do think smokers need to have more consideration for other people. Alot of smokers are not very considerate when it comes to lightning up though, as proven on here by a poster who told us her Mum use to smoke when she was pregnant and around her as a child.

A little hypothetical scenario for you

you are driving home on a cold wet dark winters night your car breaks down, you have no mobile phone and you are stuck in the middle of nowhere,

David/Davina from the office lives near you and see's you stranded and offers a lift home, Do you or Dont you accept

they are a smoker  but knowing you do not smoke re-assure you that they will not smoke on the journey

Do you dont you get in and with that Im going down the pub to get drunk/smoke by the door/and then for a lovelly kebab

I stopped smoking 10 years ago, but I do feel for smokers these days. Instead of a total ban they should allow smoking areas/rooms in pubs, clubs, casinos etc.

    Then it keeps everyone happy.

....I suspect some of the staff in those places would quite rightly take issue!

In canada they came out with a GREAT law.. if you are driving in your car with a child under 12 it is ILLEGAL for you to smoke!
