frontline not working

same as BillyMilly. bought 6 pipettes of frontline for my two cats and mum's one cat. Within two weeks I noticed mine had fleas, my mum saw fleas at hers too. Couldn't say whether or not fleas had ever disappeared, only that in both households we noticed fleas within a fortnight. (I appreciate that we did not flea treat the furniture, but even so, I understood Frontline to make the cat's blood in effect poisonous to the flea so although I'd have understood if there were still fleas in the house, they should not have been able to live on the cats for approx 4 weeks and they were). Wasn't sure if it was a reputable seller and perhaps counterfeit as bought on amazon but judging by other reviews Frontline's the problem, not the seller. I didn't want to spend another £20-odd on another batch to check whether it was counterfeit, or just not working so I bought Advocate online. You do need a prescription from your vet, but it worked really quickly and it also gets rid of worms, it cost me about £20 (a little more I think) for 6 pipettes and is applied in the same way as Frontline so for me, a reliable alternative0

My cat had fleas and we were all suffering bites in my house I got Advantage from local vet as that's what the staff said they used at home after applying Adnatage and spraying the house with Indorex after a few weeks everything was fine and the fleas had gone, you can get the spray cheaper from on line companies I got mine from Vet Uk and ordered worming tablets at the same time as cat's can get worms when they have fleas as a result of ingesting fleas while grooming, cant remember exactly how but if you Google it you will find out,the Advantage we got from the vet as it is prescription only you can get it cheaper from online vets but you still have to send them a prescription which you would have to obtain from your vet which if like my vet charges £10 for prescription so it negates any saving you would have made from cheaper supplier.
I'm quite heavy handed to I purchased 2 tins of Indorex so I could give my carpets heavy coverage as I didn't fancy doing it twice when you consider moving rugs and furniture.
good luck
The advantage was £21 and comes with 4 small tubes that you apply each month,I hear that you are entitled to ask for a repeat prescription ( again probably £10 fee)from your vet for 12 months supply of drugs, this would then enable you to send prescription to online retailer who would keep copy of prescription and you could get a years worth of advantage which would work out cheaper even factoring in the prescription cost,I probably will try this myself as I think the vets are being greedy
On a final note I was struggling to apply the advantage liquid to the back of my cats neck as he tried to rip my arms to shreds,so then decided to approach him while he was lying on a bed unaware, gave him a little stroke on back of head, parted his hair to expose his neck skin at base of skull and very quickly squeezed the whole tube onto his neck, with no trouble at all.0 -
I also stopped using Frontline on my dogs as it became useless. I got Advantage without a prescription and it did the job.0

It is odd because I used Frontline and it was very effective. My cat was an outside cat and I only ever had to dose him in the summer months. He was combed at least twice a week and I rarely found anything. I switched to Frontline Combo after he picked up a couple of sheep ticks. That worked too. I considered using it on myself.
I also had to sneak up on he while he was asleep to apply it.
Edit: Frontline doesn't make the cat's blood poisonous to fleas, it coats the cat's skin with an insecticide.0 -
Thanks for the advice on here.
I wonder if the fleas are bad this winter because after years of no problems (and probably have been lucky) my two old cats seem to be stuck with loads of the stubborn bu**ers
I put it down to having moved house in the Autumn and being in a different neighbourhood and the 'locals' being more prevalent :rotfl:
After one session about 6 weeks ago we're infested again  I've just used up the last of my usual products on them.
If that fails a trip to the v£t is in the offing methinks0 -
Hi Sandhy have you given your house a good spray with something like Indorex, under sofas, skirting boards, under rugs, spray sofas as well you have to be thorough,I also sprayed our mattresses over and under, that and applying advantage prescription did the trick for me0

Hiya
I've given everything a thorough spray with Bob Martin All In One Flea Spray (as that's all I could find in Tesco). I did all around the sides of the rooms then the middle areas, then the sofa! It's only a small 1 bed house. I've also stripped my bed and washed at 60 deg. I've just ordered some Indorex and some Advantage from Amazon.0 -
Its the central heating, cant live without it in this weather but the fleas are having a field day
We treat house first and cats second, always have done but my boys are still looking a bit 'suspicious' with their grooming over the last couple of weeks!
I'm limited to what i can use in the house because i keep reptiles and creepy crawliesAnt. :cool:0 -
Doh! Silly me, central heating, of course. Obvious now you say it!
When I said I moved house in the Autumn...this house is so cosy compared to all the draughty places I've lived in before. Nicely insulated with double glazing and central heating
Hmm, if I had to choose between fleas and central heating... ?0 -
Ok Sandhy I have read many poor reviews of the Bob Martin stuff and much of the supermarket stuff in general, good luck when you get your delivery from Amazon0
