My two Jack Russells were scratching for a while before I found out they were infested with fleas. I bought Wilkinsons anti flea capsules and flea collars. Every day I combed through with a very fine comb and over a fortnight found dozens. You have to be very very quick and hope the fleas get caught in the comb hair. They do take some killing, crushing that is. Keep at it, day after day, it's the only way really. I suspect the fleas came in via the cat. She got the same treatment and after about a month all's well. The animals will stop scratching as soon as they are free. Vacuum bedding and the whole house every day, ditch the result outside ASAP. Good Luck!

Hi, My two tortie cats have broke out in fleas after I just got them home from my mums, having been on holiday for a week. They were inside all week and my mum's other cat gets Frontlined regularly so I can only assume there where fleas that hatched at my house when my cats came home or that they were already there, starving and laying in wait for the cats to return.

Anyway my mum Frontlined my cats 3 days ago but I was on the sofa last night when a flea jumped on my arm and that's how I found out they were not dead. I've combed the cats last night and tonight. Got 10 out of each cat last night and just done one tonight and caught 14! It's quite satisfying in a weird way.

My tip to kill them once in the comb is this... Fill a non-food-use largish flat bowl with boiling water and have it very close to were you are combing e.g. on a table outside with cat on knee. When a flea is found, quickly dip the comb in the water and shake it off or wipe it off with your fingers and watch the little sucker die pretty quickly!

I hate killing things and will always save spiders and even flies with a spider catcher if I can but I have no sympathy for fleas. They have to die.

I also sprayed my whole house with some Johnsons 4fleas household spray that I got from a pet shop for about £12. It says it stops eggs hatching and kills them and lasts 6 months. I did this combo attack last summer and the fleas went in about a week so I think its a good idea. I just hate to see the cats suffering and don't much like the thought of the critters being in my house.
  • For nearly seven years I have always used frontline spray on my cats to treat fleas. Only once did I have a serious problem with fleas and I put it down to the extreme heat we were having at the time. Nearly three weeks ago during a routine comb of my cats I noticed that one had a flea. As they hadn't seen a vet in a long time I booked them an appointment for a check-up. I was advised at the counter to purchase the frontline combo instead of the frontline spray. I paid £28:38 for 6 pipettes and I also purchased a spray for the home. That night my cats were treated and the following day my home was also thoroughly treated. Unfortunately every other day, when I combed my cats I still kept finding fleas. I telephoned the vets and they said to give the cats another pipette two weeks after the first application. Exactly two weeks to the day while combing one of my cats I came across what I thought looked like excessive dandruff, the other cat was fine so I didn't treat them. What I thought was dandruff was infact flea eggs and my cat is infested with baby fleas. I have treated my cats with the pipettes again and now have to spray the house. For something that is so expensive it really should work first time. Either my cats have become immune or they have weakened the dosage. I will certainly not be impressed if this second dosage does not work.

Fluff-head don't waste anymore money!! Frontline stopped working on my cats too. in the end i gave up and bought avantage which killed them all in 2 days. flea free here now!! Advantage is a different drug and it's also in bob martin double action spot on which is a lot cheaper. don't buy the more common bob martin products though as they don't work. has to be "double action"

I had an email today to say that advantage is now available without a prescription from vetuk (https://www.vetuk.co.uk)
A home is not a home ..... without a dog
  • i use front line spray on my two cats worked great for years but in the summer started getting fleas started using flea collar's as well as the front line spray and it works
  • The second dose of Frontline Combo also didn't work. Have written a letter of complaint to the manufacturers asking for a refund.

Just to say I have used frontline for years now but the last 3 months both cats have had fleas, i went to my vet yesterday who confirmed that she is having alot of people saying it doesnt work anymore she recommended ADVOCAT which kills fleas, eggs, larve and worms within 12 hours, just like frontline it is on the back of the neck this morning there were a few dead fleas where the cat has been laying so it is working, i would also recommend using household flea spray for carpets rugs etc and hoovering on a daily basis to keep on top of it. Also do not make the mistake i did and try to buy ADVOCAT online this is a prescription only drug and i made the mistake of ordering from DISCOUNTPETCARE.CO.UK this is not a genuine site it is a scam and i have lost £35 to them. Advocate is only available from your vet or online with a reputable company but a vets prescription is still needed.
  • We stopped using frontline over a year ago. We get STRONGHOLD on prescription from the vet for our 3 cats, its too pricy to use each month so we spot each cat when we first see the signs of fleas and its kept them at bay. We dont take them in every time, just phone up for it and they et their checkup when they have their vax's.

If memory serves, when we mentioned to the vet that frontline stopped working she nodded her head and mentioned some ingredient being taken out.
