What on gods green earth are you babbling on about now? loose? your not loosing anything your paying for goods, it's what they cost.

If you think that if the seller wasn't charging that money in the postage he wouldn't be adding it into the sale price (plus fees) then frankly your so naive it's funny.

sellers are not ripping you off on postage, they are saving a bit on fees by deducting some of the sale price and adding it to the postage.

    Simple maths for you,
seller A sells boomerangs for £5 plus £1 postage = you pay £6 total
Seller B sells boomerangs for £3 plus £3 postage = you pay £6 total.

Why don't you explain in similar layman’s terms,
    1. how seller B is ripping you off
    2. how You are "loosing" money.
I just can't see it, looks like you pay exactly the same to me which in turn = a lot of whining and temper tantrums over nothing!

You forgot to add the extra 20p FVF so if you buy from seller A you will a pay 20p more and B make ebay even richer.

    Strange world!

If i buy from seller A who had the item for the same price as seller B, which he did in this case, but sellers A postage is the correct cost for the service he uses but seller Bs service is a lower one for the same cost, then seller B is riping me off as ive paid him more for the item because he hasnt used the postage money for postage and infact kept it for him self, however had i have bought from seller A then the postage money would have been used for exactly that service! therefore seller B is ripping me off.

But aren't you the slightest bit bothered that you will pay 20p more from seller A for EXACTLY the same thing ?

Surely you would rather pay less ? NO ?:rotfl:

Or of course you could look at it another way. A seller who overcharges because they don't approve of ebay fees has already proved themselves unreliable and happy to work round rules. Do I want to buy from a seller like that? If they are happy to get round ebay rules and play the system, what else are they happy to do

None of it matters anyway, only the buyer who is leaving feedback and stars actually matters at all. We can discuss it on here as much as we like and it makes no difference.

Most retailers who charge standard price for postage are doing exactly the same thing. For example go to Amazon and buy something, pay for expedited delivery i guarantee that Amazon pay less for that service than they charge you because they will get considerable discounts for the sheer bulk of items they send.

by your reckoning Amazon are morally obliged to pass on those postage savings to you as in your words "postages charges should be what it costs the seller to send", well, welcome to the world of business where morals give way to bottom lines.

i disagree whole heartedly with soolin that if a buyer adds a little extra to an items postage it indicates they will provide poor service to the buyer but if you feel like that you are under no obligation to buy, so why buy then complain later?

it's like going to a restaurant, eating every last crumb of your meal then complaining to the staff that it was "undercooked" well why did you eat it all before you complained? is it because your a greedy pig who wants two helpings?

Same thing with ebay, you have the choice not to buy but you do in the hope you'll get some money off with the threat of reporting their minor indiscretion to ebay....it's all about personal gain and for the amount were talking, it's quite pathetic.

I hadnt heard anything more from the seller till this afternoon when i noticed in my email i had a paypal refund email notification thing, so i clicked on it, and its from the seller of the item with the extra postage. Then i had a message via ebay from the seller saying:

' she was sorry, she had left her account with her other half whilst she was away for work, the item should have been sent via recorded delivery and thats what she had charged for in the postage, other half had sent it standard and sent the rude reply re profit and she had refunded the difference and was very sorry and she doesnt like sellers herself that make a profit from postage and that she didnt want her otherhalfs mistake to ruin her ebay reputation as she had a lot more of this item to sell and competition was high'.

I just replied and said thank you for the refund. i didnt really know what else to say or do to be honest.

I guess shes learnt not to leave her account in the hands of her boyfriend who clearly didnt know what he was doing !LOL

I think there are two issues here.

Firstly, it was poorly packaged and the item was damaged because of it. That, I think, is something that needs to be addressed through whatever the process is.

Secondly, the seller has admitted that they bump up postage to make a profit. IMHO that's wrong, but I can understand the point about the buyer knowing how much they were paying and not being able to complain about that.

Umm, where does it say it was damaged?? The OP was complaining that the envelope was poorly packaged ( probably just because there was sellotape used ) not that the product was in any way inferior.

Now folks, where does it say in the ebay rules that the envelope has to be new?

I thought in this environment green time that recycling was the way to go. Why chuck out a perfectly good envelope only because its been used once??

Sunnysea, get a life, you knew in advance what you were paying for, you got the product that you wanted. Perhaps next time you want it delivered on a cashmere wool cushion by a liveried butler for the extra 1.40?

You cant compare a business and a private seller. I am the latter and like other sellers, I sell on ebay is to maximise the amount of money I get from each object.

As a buyer the object is to get the purchase for the least amount possible. If you cant add the cost of the object and the postage ( which is clearly stated ) and compare sellers, then maybe you shouldnt be using ebay.

He said that the item was smelly because of the packaging, to me that's damaged.
