how do i report fee avoidance

Basically bought an item with sellers standard rate as postage, postage was high but about right for 1st class recorded delivery, item arrived today and cost the seller 90p to post and sent in a used postage bag.

So i emailed the seller and asked why postage was 3 times the actual cost and item sent in a used bag so wouldnt have cost them a penny to use (other than a bit of standard selotape)

the response i got was that they they have to charge high postage to make a profit as they cant list the item for more cause their competitors charge the same as them, there competitors postage is 20p more for postage but its 1st class recorded delivery!

Its clearly fee avoidance and the seller has even said they use postage for a profit.

how do i report this??

If it was a standard rate that was clearly stated at the outset, then you knew what you were paying. Why are you annoyed about it now? If they'd used a Paypal prepaid sticker for posting it, you'd be none the wiser. If you're happy with the total amount, which you must be coz you paid it, move on. That's what I'd do.

If they are profiteering out of postage that is against ebay rules. the argument that people know what they are paying for is just stupid. I seem to have repeated this comment at least 5 times today. here it is again. Buyers are unlikely to know the full cost of the postage until the item arrives (as they wont know the weight). So what initially looks reasonable may not be when it arrives. As for the Paypal stickers. if a parcel arrives at my house be it ebay or not and the postage isnt on the label . i weigh the parcel as this effects whether I will use that company or ebay seller in future. (maybe a little obsessive but thats me. I dont like to be ripped off)

Just go to the listing and click to report a problem and follow the menus.

Re alfiesmum comment - well no im not really happy,as i could have bought it from a competitor for the same money and it would have been sent 1st class recorded in new packaging and not in a used dirty packaging that has caused a new item to smell.

They are making a profit on postage which isnt allowed, if they want more profit the item should be more in the first place

The seller is clearly trying to save on there ebay fees and it makes those sellers that are trying and being honest look bad and lose on sales. I would have bought from the other seller had i have known this sellers poor service beforehand

Totally agree and people wonder why Free P&P is being brought in across the board. These sellers only have themselves to blame

You can estimate the weight and look it up on the Royal Mail website. P&P also covers time put into wrapping item, labeling and going to post office/box.

Some companies like M&S and Argos charge £3.50-£7+ for delivery of small items and customers don't complain. Why should Ebay be any different?

I think OP that you are overreacting. If my calculations are correct you are complaining about being charged 80p extra (if the envelope, sellotape etc did not cost anything). I feel really sorry for the seller to be honest.

exactly my thoughts. they are ruining it for others. i dont mind paying extra for postage when the item arrives well packaged etc but when its just been put in a grotty used mail bag and youve paid over double the stamp cost its very annoying!

ive just looked at some of there other feedback and someone left feedback last night saying that postage was listed as free but they had to pay 2.99 (its a neg comment) and its an item that needs free postage. the seller has followed up with a comment saying, 'i have to make a profit somehow only won for .99p'.

so it looks like they make a habbit of this regardless of ebays rules.

Places like argos and M&S use BRAND NEW CLEAN packaging and usually a courier that ensures that item is delivered within a couple of days and/or requires a signature!

No i was over charged by £1.60 nearly twice what the seller paid for postage as she only paid 90p!

i cant find a button to report fee avoidance, im not that bothered, just annoys me that sellers rip people off like that, if it had been well packaged i wouldnt have even looked at the cost of the postage label on it, its only cause it was so badly packaged and i thought maybe i hadnt paid enough postage for the item to be sent in decent packaging lol.

I think ill just leave neutural and point out the high postage cost for a low postage cost item and poor packaging.

theyve had quite a few negs in the last few days for various reasons so i dont want to make what looks like a bad week any worse
  • Go into your won items, go to the item, click report item, listing policy breaches - > Circumvation of ebay fees -> excessive postage & packing. It gives you an area to give further details, you could give your transaction details there?
