Leukaemia care also collect used stamps... when i asked them about it (as i also used to collect for guide dogs) they told me...
"
An outside company look after these on our behalf, so I would therefore be grateful if you would forward any stamps to the following address, making clear that you would like the proceeds to be given to Leukaemia CARE.
The address to send them to is: CSS, 46 Church Hill, Chorley, Lancashire, PR6 7LQ"
So there's another option for people with spare stamps ;o)
I have 4 sweet jars full of stamps that I have been saving for nearly two years and now can share among all of the charities mentioned above. Will be passing the message to all of my friends also. Many thanks to all that have volunteered this information.0 -
Two more very worthwhile charities that are worth bearing in mind which collect stamps are: IFAW - (International fund for animal welfare), Action Week stamps, Berkeley House, 186 High Street, Rochester, Kent ME1 1EY and Bransby Home of Rest for horses, Bransby, Lincoln, LN1 2PH.0

I send the stamps we save for our ward to different charities and have found recently that the local post office is refusing to use stamps - as in indivual ones on the front of the packet - they said it is now against their policy and so they stick a prepaid label on the front which is kind of silly for charity taht collects used stamps.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I can only suggest that you carefully weigh the package (on the PO scales if you want) but don't post the package there and then. Buy stamps (as many as you want to add up to the postage) and affix them later. Take the package to the PO with the stamps already affixed - they can't insist you remove them and use their label!0 -
Something to note is that mixed cancelled postage stamps sell for very low prices.
Ordinary cancelled postage stamps with the Queen on them are worth less than the postage required to send them to a charity.
If you want to do this -- increase the value by sending only foreign stamps and commorative stamps.
While you are at it, look down the back of the sofa, you will probably double the value of your donation if you send that too.0 -
I used to send stamps for Bransby Home of Rest for Horses in Lincolnshire if it's still about.
I don't get many stamps now as everything seems to be franked.

I buy stamps from charities to help them raise funds. Despite the PO insisting on using the labels there are still plenty of stamps around and it is still worthwhile for charities to use them to fundraise.
It costs charities nothing for me to purchase them as I refund their postage so it all helps.
So please don't stop sending stamps to your favourite charity (unless they no longer collect them) as it can help them with their fundraising.
