Hi, I made and iced a coffee and walnut cake with buttercream icing yesterday. Could I freeze it?
How long can I freeze it for?
Is there anything special I would need to do for defrosting it?
Thank you0 -
There is no way I could ever know the answer.
It would all be eaten before it ever got near the freezer0 -
Hi,
Could I freeze it?
Yes, I would think so, you can freeze butter and you can freeze cake, so can't see a problem.
How long can I freeze it for?
Well wrapped, about a year I'd say.
Is there anything special I would need to do for defrosting it?
No, just take it out of the freezer and pop on a plate. Don't put it in the fridge.0 -
I often freeze cakes, iced ones freeze well just take it out when you want it & put it on a place to defrost. I freeze in slices so I can take out what I need. Be warned, frozen chocolate cake with butter icing is very yummy LOL0

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to keep ideas together.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

Hello. This is probably being covered before but I have 'inherited' a whole load of cakes, croissants, muffins/biscuits from a party we had. You know the big costco packs.
This is too much for me to eat at one go, but can I freeze this stuff and if so, how do I make it ready for eating again, and how long does it keep?0 -
I have frozen various cakes and muffins with no problems.Usually I cut the cake into individual slices before freezing;it's easier to take out a slice as and when you need it.
I've never frozen croissants, don't know if you can.
I'm not sure about biscuits.Surely they have quite a long shelf life,so would keep for a while without going off.

Thanks. I think the biscuits are more like the cookies. Previously I had some but they don't keep for that long without getting dry.
I got some danish pastries as well........would seem a shame to throw it all.
If I take the cake from the freezer how long does it take to defrost, or can I just stick it in the oven for a while for it to warm up?0 -

I would cut the cake in slices before freezing. Then, whether you take out the whole thing or one slice,it takes less time to defrost. I've never defrosted a cake by putting it in the oven.I suppose you could do this.
You could always try and freeze a few Danish pastries,to see if it works!0 -
Croissants freeze too. If they are the Costco ones, I regularly freeze them. They are a little more flaky when defrosted but taste fine. I have also frozen supermarket ones too.0
