  • Hellooooo!!

nicki, i love primark essentials, i bought the £1.50 vests in the summer (the one with lycra) in every colour and i wear one practically everyday, under jumpers and the tattier ones for bed. I also bought a jersey blazer from there fairly recently (with paypal money of course) and they were around £13- they were way more expensive elsewhere!!. So i guess taking the tops back means you are fully on board:T

Debie, i adore my neat and tidy wardrobe and find it so easy to get dressed on a morning;) i even have all my clothes colour co-ordinated ( i really should get out more:rolleyes:) Well done on your paypal money!!

Nichard i bought the dress in red, BUT My lovely mum said she will buy it me in Black for christamas:A thanks Mum x Don't we just love our mums, i bet your very excited about your shopping trip with your mum!!

Kellylea, ooo all them clothes, why don't you set aside some time to have a good try on of everything? Anything that you won't wear anymore sell on ebay??

Curlygirl, could you not borrow a dress from a friend or relative, seems a shame to spend a lot of money on something that may only wear once or twice a year. As far as putting looks together, why not try a 'look book' gramer girl suggested this a while a ago and i have to say i found them very inspirational. why don't youtry frehsning your outfits up with scarves??

anyhow, things still really manic in the loves2spend house, kitchen nearly finished though and as i've had no washing machine since last week i'm really having to use my imagination where outfits are concerned, today's ensemble is a mink coloure velout tracksuite pink vest and pink scarve, not very stylish but he ho!!

Pups are doin great all there eyes are open and we are startin to see their personalitys. I may have fallen in love with one of them and even tho dh and i agreed we would be keepin any i may have to.......

So what you all been up to , how have you refrained from clothes shopping?????

    Hi Everyone

Sharon puppies are adoreable, how many doggies will you have if you keep one of the pups?

Went to Tesco's with DD and I did not spend a penny on myself :j, I did buy DD a sequin dress for £30.00 with 20% off.

DD bought a pair of shoe boots for £15.40 after discount, must admit I was quite taken with them :D.

I have loads of items on Ebay at the moment, so I could withdraw some of my paypal money for a pair .

    Have a good evening everyone.

    Hi Everyone

Sharon this is how I have managed to refrain from shoppping

I must be quite a clumsy person as at the weekend I managed to break my ankle in 2 places when I tripped over. I thought I had just sprained it, but when the pain became quite intense and I was unable to weight bear hubby nipped me to A & E.

Have to go back on Wednesday for more xray's and a new cast, I am so angry  with myself as we have so many things arranged leading up to xmas .

    Hope everyone else is okay.
  • Ahhhh Debie, sending you lots if virtual hugs!! Just what you don't need on top of christmas. Are you in a lot of pain??? You know me n hubs had a very deep discussion about xmas the other day, he says i put myself under too much pressure to have everything 'perfect' and i know he is right, i usually spend the two days after xmas falling asleep on the couch with sheer exhaustion. He said i have to let him do more and let go of the reigns a bit. I suppose what i'm trying to say is Debie you may need to sit back and let others take care of YOU, (advice i should listen to:rolleyes:) Christmas is just one day afterall!!! Everycloud has a silver lining, with a broken ankle clothes shoppping is totally off the radar!! (unless u browse on t'internet)

If i were to keep a puppy it would mean i have 3 dogs:eek: not really sure i want that. The practical side says'nooooooooooo' and my hearts saying 'yesssss' I also have 2 cats. Taking care of them and cleaning up after them is a full on job, throw 4 kids into the mix and:eek:. So i don't want to keep one, i will just have to make sure they go to lovely homes.

Back on topic, i have 4 suits listed on ebay atm, so proceeds are going to buy some new make-up. I suppose this challenge has made me more mindful of spending frivioulsly (sp) and giving more thought to what i actually need.

    Bye for now

  • Hi Deb

Sorry to hear about accident, hope you are ok, and still manage to make most of christmas. On the bright side, noone is going to expect you to spend ages standing in the kitchen, cooking and washing up!!

I look such a scruff bag though. I've mostly only bought 'cheap' clothes for last few years - George, Tesco etc., and they only have certain life to them before they start to bobble. And boy am I bobbled. I could actually do with buying quite a few new clothes to smarten myself up. My work colleagues think I own two pairs of trousers. And they're right I do (well I have some others but they are literally two sizes two small at the present) Sadly one pair of work trousers has shrunk a little in the leg so every other day I look reeeaaaalllly 'special'. Anyway I've saved up £23 in Clubcard vouchers so Tesco's here I come.....again.

I know that there are people on this thread and others who have imagination and ideas and 'do things' to their existing clothes to re-invent them and continue to look good. But I just don't have that ability in me. My style is more Steptoe and Son than Trinny and Suzannah. Other than knowing Black goes with most things, I have zero imagination. I have been known to buy the full outfit as modelled by the dummy in the window.

And then there is the issue of the Christmas Party - A rather flash do this year. There are lots of lovely dresses on Ebay for reasonable prices but feel a bit reluctant to buy from there on this occasion. I'm an odd shape. Not like Quasimodo or anything. It's just that the fat cells that were meant to form mammaries (Am I allowed to say mammaries?) headed south and I ended up with a disproportionatly large stomach instead of a clevage. So I have to be careful as to what I wear. £10 spent on Ebay on a dress that I find I can't wear is £10 wasted. I've seen quite a few dresses in Debenhams that I like very much and will feel comfortable in them. My BF has offered to get me one as my Xmas pressie. And I nearly took him up on it.........but I just couldn't face spending that much money on one item (even though it wouldn't really be my money and there is a sale on). It just seems ridiculous given what I'm trying to do....so not entirely convinced that is an option. So thinking cap back on...........and if nothing occurs to me then I will be attending the Xmas party in a bin bag accessorized with a belt and a feather boa.

I am a cheap clothes connoisseur! Most of my stuff is from Primark/H&M/New Look etc. The key is to choose carefully. My worst buy ever was the acrylic cardigans - got them about 2 months ago and they've all bobbled and become misshapen. Whereas the cotton cardigan I bought from Primark 6 months ago and wear at least twice a week still looks good as new.

When you go for your new trousers at Tesco, take a look at the label. Polyester is hard to avoid when you've got less than £30, but a lycra mix will help the trousers retain their shape. If I were you, I'd go for a simple pair of wool trousers. Perfect for winter with blouses and cardigans and a little different from your bog standard black.

As for the party dress... do you have a black pencil skirt and a chiffon blouse? Pull the pencil skirt so it sits on your waist and belt it with something shiny. Tuck the chiffon blouse (doesn't have to be chiffon... I'm just thinking sheer rather than cotton) in, stick some sheer tights on, add heels and a few chunky bangles or a eye catching necklace and away you go!

That's just one idea. If you know black, stick to it and brighten it up with accessories. Scarves are good, like Sharron says. I think the thing to remember is you don't have to wear a dress.

Hope that was a little bit helpful! :) x

I actually threw away a load of stuff the other day. I'd just firnished 6 nights so all of my used undies were in the washing machine/ drier/ wash basket.

Just been revisiting this thread and cringed when I read this post :o.
I would like to point out that by "used undies" I meant the undies I actually use, not *USED* undies:eek:!
I'm now down to 3 sets of matching undies and have one white bra and 1 pair black nicks. Need to get rid of this combo! MiL had no idea what to get me for Christmas so I asked for undies. She said she can't buy my undies so I said vouchers for M&S she said no. So then I was stumped. When I couldn't come up with anything else she said I would have to go and buy them and give them to her to wrap up :D. Fine by me as I then had a flashback of the Gossard diamante g-string she bought me 6 years ago  (when DS was 6 days old ). Oh and the conversation where we were discussing sizes and I said I was a 32DD and she said I couldn't possibly be a 32 I was far too big. 4 of us were trying to explain sizing to her (DH and BiL included :rotfl:) and she eventually said OH in my day we never had cup sizes (she's 62 and not an old 62!)

Still not bought any clothes. Just been planning my next wardrobe cull. Am working my way through the toiletry stash slowly but surely!
One of you gave me an idea too. I have a lovely eyeshadow set that I've never used. I may give it to SiL for christmas. I may try to ebay it though as she never seems grateful to receive makeup and I know she wants wellies. Or I may use it as a birthday gift for a friend in June. Hmm, decisions decisions!

  • Kaz- you are doing really well. I, like you, have started working my way through the toilettries- was very tempted to buy some more but stopped myself. Do you have pairs of non matching underwear too? only I don't think I have any underwear that 'matches'!

Debidoodle- sorry to hear about your fall. How is your ankle doing? How long will you be out of action for?

I've been a bit naughty today. Went into town and ended up with a friend in Primark and bought some Ugg style boots- only a fiver though so not a big slip up and I know I will get the wear out of them. It better than I would of previously been- previously I would have bought at least £20 worth of stuff.

I'm dreading the Christmas sales already as thats when I always get tempted to go shopping.

    Hi Everyone
Hope everyone is okay, I am now sporting a new cast in a fashionable shade of purple ;) very on trend! I will be in a cast for 6 weeks, no weight bearing for 4 weeks . We were due to go to a retirement party tonight but cannot go too many stairs, have already fell over once with my crutches as I am so clumsy. Hubby popped the present and card around this afternoon, she is going to pop in and see me next week for lunch instead.

DD is moving to Gloucester next week to start her new job so will be busy packing up this week, I am so angry  as I cannot help her as much as I would like.

Luckily I wrapped the xmas presents and wrote the xmas cards the other week, so only need to wrap DD's stocking fillers.

I have bought a pair of shoes from Ebay this week, this money was from my sales on Ebay. Ironic as I will not be able to wear them for some time but ideal for work and were needed.

HappyLottie my everyday undies do not match, make the effort when I go out and dress up.

Pizza delivery beckons and X factor.

    Debbie xx
