Bronnie - thanks for this advice. Found this thread yesterday and read through it, but have always been of the opinion that charity shops only sell grotty, secondhand tat. On the way back from the high street (exchanging a birthday present, honest:D) I came past probably the poshest small town around here and thought I would stop off

    Managed to find
    beige suede skirt £4.95 BHS
grey wool skirt £3 river island
    which both appear brand new!

They also had several tops which would have been great, but I really don't need any right now:A
and a beautiful red dress, but it was slightly too small :o all for £3-£5

Whether this new found enthusiasm will lead to a reduction in my spending is debatable, as I love a bargain and now want to go regularly! At least at those prices (are they reasonable BTW?) I won't feel so guilty!

    Brilliant:T.
I'm a fairly new convert too, thanks to MSE> I think the trick is to keep looking, but to be discerning! I'm quite happy to look and come away empty handed, but it's good to keep looking regularly. My top bargains were a virtually new cream Oasis trench coat for £7, which is so me and I'll wear and wear, a new RIver Island black handbag for £3 and a pair of quality M&S Autograph lined white linen trousers for £2.99, which I wore once, lost weight and resold on ebay for £18.50!

I try a cross section of shops. My best ones are in a reasonably affluent area, but one of the shops there is not especially inspiring and a bit whiffy IYKWIM! Often, I come away empty-handed, but they are cheap and this is where I got the trousers, so it's always worth a quick trawl!

    Well done. Happy hunting!
  • I have been catching up and really enjoying this thread. Well done everyone!

I haven´t bought anything since I returned to Spain after my UK trip a month ago. I haven´t been to any clothes shops and in my spare time I am reading books that others have passed on to me (very MSE). I have to say I feel so much more tempted when I am in the UK so it probably is easier for me to do it here. I know one thing, even when I do go shopping again, which will probably be in November when I return to the UK for a few days, I will only buy what I love. I really want to make up for all the moeny I have wasted on impulse and emotional buys over the years.

It's quiet on here lately and I have today purchased some fit flops, I know that the summer is over but I have always wanted a pair. I have bought the Walkstar Jelly in black & white :j from Shudoo with 50% off so they cost £21.00 and I still have money in my paypal account so classed as a no spend :money:.

Hi all, been to carboot today & got a lovely green flowery monsoon bag, and a matching indian shawl, with tiny sequins, perfect for up coming holidays, and all for £4.00 So I am pleased. tbh I haven't missed shopping over the last few weeks. I have bought a few new things for my dgk & a couple of things from carboot or charity shops for me, and that's it. Having fewer things have actually made it a lot easier to decide what to wear. I haven't worked out how much I have saved, but I reckon I have only spent approx £20 (if that) since I started this challenge.

I am going to put some money away towards my dream holiday, and I might even start the challenge again in 2010. (will need to have my after xmas sales fix!!)

  • Katie, i havn't missed shopping either!!!! I have found my 'lookbook' to be an absoloute gem. I have just transferred ebay funds to my account so when that hits i am going to buy a biker jacket from new look. I have to tell you that i am VERY excited about this as i feel it will pull a lot of outfits together for autum. I am really enjoying the anticipation of my purchase!!!! I also need some new tights to freshen up a few items too. I have sold quiet a bit on ebay (£104 in total) so apart from the aformentioned jacket i have no other 'planned' purchases, but do have some cash to do so.

Your purchases sound fab, very envious as we don't have any decent car boots around here!!!

    Hey lovelies,

Well done to all who are sticking with it!!

Feeling a bit smug this week :D Made £70 at the carboot today & just over £50 on eBay so got £120 from this weekend to spend, woo hoo! To boot, I got a H&M silk mix top which will be ok as I get more pregnant because of the style...new...for a whopping 25p :D

Jacket sounds lovely Sharron - there's some fab bits in New Look @ the mo, I popped in the other day and was very tempted by a black knit dress...but decided I'd prob never really wear it so left it behind. I did however pick up a couple of pairs of new Primark pumps (they do leather ones now, wahoo!) & a dress which too will hopefully grow with me as I get more pregnant. Total of £33, taken from the £200+ I've made from eBay & carboots lately!
    Baby Boy arrived March 25th 2010 - 17 days late & 8lb 10oz :j

Went shopping with DD today and I am so pleased I did not buy a single item for myself :j DD bought enough for both of us. Slightly off topic my DD will be moving soon and I will miss her terribly but this is a brilliant opportunity for her as she has a job at Gloucester hospital so I bought her a new dress from New Look as a congratulation pressie and lunch at Bella Italia.

Well done on the bootsales Gymfiend.
Love the biker jackets Sharon and great news regarding Ebay sales.
Fab finds at the carboot Katieclampet.
Everyone needs a treat in times of stress Missymouse.
