Hi girls....have been following this thread with interest from the start:T
    Great initiative!

Bitsy....have you tried charity shops instead of ebay? I take an hour (Hmm!!) or so out every week for a browse. Go to different area each time, depending where I am! Yesterday I came away empty handed, but have had some excellent additions to my wardrobe for a couple of quid and you can try on.

Also have you thought about buying a long cardi to update your jeans and old t shirts? Asda had one in a suprisingly good quality a couple of weeks ago in a sort of cobalt blue for £11, but there are lots around everywhere. When the weather gets colder, you could add a scarf (Primark, really cheap) to fill in the chilly gap at the neck!

  • My local charity shops aren't anything special (have had a nose but with 2 small kids in tow it was never a lengthy look round). Mind you someone suggested some charity shops in the more upmarket end of my town so when I have the time I should really have look at their stock there.

I have two scarves, one white and one black (both sort of pinstripe with silver thread) but TBH I haven't got the guts to wear them :o I am absolutely rubbish when it comes to accessories - I just lack the foresight about putting them with other outfits. I think things look so fab on other people I just don't seem to be able to translate that to myself :o I am fab at shopping for my mum and getting her to try different things but no so great at doing it for myself. I need someone experienced to show me the ropes. Mind you haven't got the funds for it anyway!

  • Thanks for the support, might try the boots. They can be my special purchase for 2010!

Bitsy Beans, are you sure you're not me?! I'm exactly the same...good at buying individual items, and even at putting them together, but useless at the little bits that set the outfit apart. Embarassingly enough, I used to work in a posh clothes shop and style people professionally(!), but never got good at doing that bit for myself. We should try 'style hangers', where you lay the whole outfit out as though it were on a hanger and then try adding bits and pieces to it until you find a combination you like. I hear it works.

I'm sure Sharron did that in her pictures on her original capsule thread?

Well I failed the challenge. I had to dress up Oscars stylee for a do for DD's school. I've just sold all of my ball dresses. I had one left which is backless and virtually frontless . I really wasn't comfortable with it so I rushed to TKMaxx and bought a black dress with frilly bits (Anyone remember me saying that black is not my colour?). I went home with said dress and dug out a chocolate brown pashmina. Voila this covered all the bits I didn't want to show and went beautifully with the olive green on my own dress. So I wore that.
I took the other dress back a few days ago and got my money back :D.

So I've redeemed myself and am back on track.

I can't think of anything that I need at the moment so I'm not feeling neglected!

DD's Graduation tomorrow and I shall be wearing the following items all bought in the sale

Wallis dress with lilac and pink print bought in the sale 6 months ago £9.99
Office ballet pumps which match the dress perfectly £5.00
    Principles cardigan £9.99
    Accessories

All of the above are unworn with all the tags attached so no spends, DD and I had a rummage and she has picked this combination, weather is looking nice and sunny for tomorrow. I did have a back up outfit if the weather was not so good also from my wardrobe, I am so pleased as I have not spent a penny normally I would have been racing to town to buy an outfit with shoes.

Well done debidoodle! It's great isn't it when you are able to just dig something out that you already have. At least you won't be compounding your problems buy buying more stuff to go in already cramped wardrobes! (Not saying yours are btw!).
How about making up a digital wardrobe? You could then cross reference it (ish!).
So you are wearing this outfit for such and such. Take a photo and save it under wallis lilac/pink dress, cardigan (colour), Office pumps. Or some such doobery. When you are looking for an outfit you could type in a keyword and it would bring up all the combinations of that outfit as they all have that word in the title.
(Does anyone understand what I'm waffling on about because I think I may have confused myself!)

You could even sort the wardrobe numerically and have a number on the label of each and every piece of clothing. You wouldn't have such long titles then. (I think youd have to put a space in between each number though for recognition). That would also serve to tell you exactly how many items of clothing you actually own!
When it comes to replacing your clothing you could do a keyword/number search and see how much use that item gets. Is its replacement going to earn its place in your wardrobe?

  • debiedoodle, sounds a lovely ensemble, enjoy the graduation and tissues at the ready for your proud mummy moment!!

Kaz, we don't have failures on this thread only blips lol but well done anyhow on taking the dress back!!

Bitsy, i love accesories and wear them everyday and think they really pull an outfit together. I like what inapickle said about putting them together and seeing what they look like laid out. I would start small, perhaps a pair of pearl earrings then maybe a necklace. You could also post some pics on her and with the wealth of 'fashionistas' on here they would give you their opinion. If i lived nearby you i would come and give you a visit. (bet your glad you don't lol) I have a very stylish friend who always wears jeans and t-shirts (in brown, beige and marl grey) but she always looks fab with her little accesories. Her belts a gorgeous, her bangles are perfect and i love the simplicity of her clothes. She has said that she likes the plain canvas to add to. It has sort of become her 'uniform'.

well i have waffled on for an age, must go and so some laundry!!

Bronnie - thanks for this advice. Found this thread yesterday and read through it, but have always been of the opinion that charity shops only sell grotty, secondhand tat. On the way back from the high street (exchanging a birthday present, honest:D) I came past probably the poshest small town around here and thought I would stop off

    Managed to find
    beige suede skirt £4.95 BHS
grey wool skirt £3 river island
    which both appear brand new!

They also had several tops which would have been great, but I really don't need any right now:A
and a beautiful red dress, but it was slightly too small :o all for £3-£5

Whether this new found enthusiasm will lead to a reduction in my spending is debatable, as I love a bargain and now want to go regularly! At least at those prices (are they reasonable BTW?) I won't feel so guilty!
