My OH is the same TheBex! He probably spends as much on clothes as I do, even though he hardly ever goes shopping. All his stuff costs quite a lot! I must remind him of that the next time he tells me I buy too many clothes. :D

And don't get me started on my bro... he could do with a trip to MSE!

  • Top Drawer- I love your contribution to this thread. Its all about reworking what we have. Am going to take a fresh look at my wardrobe.
I've not been clothes shopping again this weekend. Had to go shopping with DH to look at tiles, blinds & lights for kitchen. Called in Asda & bought a few t shirts & shorts for DH (he needs them for holiday in November.) Just bout myself a pair of shoes. Black suede with silver trim & patent bit at the back (£10.00 - bargain)
Am going to have a sort through and start ebaying soon.
Also still doing a £30.00 a week food shop but starting to struggle now as the pantry & freezer are nearly empty.

debidoodle, wow, well done!!! How do you find such bargains? Monsoon stuff especially seems to go for quite a high price on ebay.

Tara the jeans were from a new seller with only 5 feedback and the Monsoon top was an established seller who only sells Monsoon, M & S, Whistles and FC, I think she was having a little sale before she went on her hols. I purchased a Monsoon maxi dress from her the other week for £10.50 and another Monsoon dress for £5.19, this was money used from previous clothes sales on Ebay so no spends.
  • Morning all,

Well I have been very good! I have been keeping up with going to the gym, I am in college after work so hardly ever have time to shop! :rotfl:
But I think my best acheivment has been getting my OH on board! He has also stopped buying clothes untill he has lost all his uni weight and saved up for our holiday next year!! :T

Still not been able to persuade anybody to buy me those boots yet though lol!!:mad::rotfl:
    :DIf I am laughing, then I don't understand!! :D

  • wow, fab e bay finds debidoddle! I have kept off ebay on purpose, since its so easy to buy. I used to buy loads of principles clothes (shops & from e bay) but haven't bought any for a while, well since our nearest 2 principles closed.

I will resist. I will resist (might have a quick peek at weekend!)

grrr already posted once but the site says it got lost ........

    So here it is again...

I would love to join the challenge as I really need to cut down my spending in every area as I live on £100 a week including rent etc.

I have sorted my wardrobe out to find all the items that I very rarely if ever wear for one reason or another and try to find a solution or sell it.

These are the items I have issues with -

White blouse and a black blouse

I bought these for formal jobs I have had but found that the black one lacked shape and never wore it. I havent worn them since (dont work in a formal environment now) as I feel theyre too formal for the weekend/casual wear.

Could you wear them under a v neck jumper in a contrasting colour? Or if not, these would look great with your waistcoat over the top along with some chunky beads and skinny jeans.

    Off the shoulder top

I always cold so I will need to buy cardigans to go with this top any suggestions for colours as I dont want black/grey really (too obvious and boring).

What colour is the top? Primark have loads of cardigans in many colours - I have a range that seem to go with everything - mustard yellow, navy, red, brown, purple, grey and black. You could also wear a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath the top.

    Criss-cross top

I love this top but again I wont be warm enough to wear it alone. I have worn it with a jean jacket in the past but it would be more versitile with a cardy instead.

Again, check out Primark's cardis or put a plain long-sleeved top underneath. I find adding a cotton scarf keeps me warm and adds a splash of colour to an outfit.

    Dress/t.shirt

How about teaming this with a long cardigan? any ideas appeciated as I really like this tops colour.
Is it a t-shirt dress? I'd wear with leggings and boots and definitely a long cardigan! Maybe wear a skinny waist belt to give a bit of shape?

    Waistcoat

I waited ages to buy this waistcoat as I really liked them but I just couldnt find the perfect way to wear it - any ideas?
I had a waistcoat too but couldn't make it work - I found retro band t-shirts and skinny jeans looked okay but I think I've got the wrong physique for it! I'm an hourglass shape and think they suit boyish figures. They're Kate Moss's staple and she looks great in them, but not for me! I sold mine on eBay so there's that option.

    Red shoes

I'm worried these age me too much as theyre flat and patent and theyre from a catalogue aimed at the older age group - do you think im right in thinking this and is there a way to make them seem less old. Is it me?
They don't sound particularly 'old' - I have some flat red patent pumps that I wear with dark skinny jeans and black and white stripy tops for a nautical look. Maybe look at adding some gold jewellery?

I am 26 and currently living off £100 a week (temp hopefully) including rent/utilities etc so really need to keep costs down as much as possible. However, I am concious of how I dress look and it would make me a lot happier if I could feel that I wasnt being deprieved too much.

    Thanks

    Jen

Hope my comments helped a bit! :)
  • Thank you everyone for the ideas. I have spent ages this evening looking over my clothes and trying different conbinations on. I also made a list earlier in the week and went to Primark and spent £33 (seems a lot at the moment, once upon a time that was a weekly occurance on one item!!) on buying some staple long/short sleeve t.shirts, some leggings, a long purple cardigan and some fabby gold eye shadow for 50p!!

I also spotted two lovely jackets, a lovely electric blue mac and a military themed short summer type jacket.... which I had to drag myself away from otherwise I would have been in serious trouble i.e I would have zilch to put towards for food/rent etc this week.

Maybe other people should list their rarely worn clothing items and then we can start up a suggest-a-conbo thing. This evening I was trying on all these clothes and my housemate (who is very switched on when it comes to style) said that the colour and item conbinations I had come up with were very funky and cool  so maybe I just need more confidence.

    Jen
