  • Hi all,

well I've had no problems being "good" all week, but that s cos I've been at work, so no temptation to spend! I am planning my weekend to keep me away from shops, lots of cleaning, ironing, washing, tidying of house (and wardrobes). I am going to carry on sorting clothes and house out for winter. I'm on holiday end of oct, so I don't want to pack all summer stuff away yet, and need to iron it before I go. So I might hang it all up if I can find wardrobe space.

There is a local carboot sale on sunday that I sometimes go to, so if weather is ok, mught have a look there. Recyled clothes dont count!!

A special Hi to all those hardy souls who have joined this no spend challenge. xx

  • grrr already posted once but the site says it got lost ........

    So here it is again...

I would love to join the challenge as I really need to cut down my spending in every area as I live on £100 a week including rent etc.

I have sorted my wardrobe out to find all the items that I very rarely if ever wear for one reason or another and try to find a solution or sell it.

These are the items I have issues with -

White blouse and a black blouse

I bought these for formal jobs I have had but found that the black one lacked shape and never wore it. I havent worn them since (dont work in a formal environment now) as I feel theyre too formal for the weekend/casual wear.

    Off the shoulder top

I always cold so I will need to buy cardigans to go with this top any suggestions for colours as I dont want black/grey really (too obvious and boring).

    Criss-cross top

I love this top but again I wont be warm enough to wear it alone. I have worn it with a jean jacket in the past but it would be more versitile with a cardy instead.

    Dress/t.shirt

How about teaming this with a long cardigan? any ideas appeciated as I really like this tops colour.

    Waistcoat

I waited ages to buy this waistcoat as I really liked them but I just couldnt find the perfect way to wear it - any ideas?

    Red shoes

I'm worried these age me too much as theyre flat and patent and theyre from a catalogue aimed at the older age group - do you think im right in thinking this and is there a way to make them seem less old. Is it me?

I am 26 and currently living off £100 a week (temp hopefully) including rent/utilities etc so really need to keep costs down as much as possible. However, I am concious of how I dress look and it would make me a lot happier if I could feel that I wasnt being deprieved too much.

    Thanks

    Jen
  • Tara, cheshire oaks is a designer outlet villiage. It has karen millen, oasis, m&s, ted baker, gap, and lots more!! I love this place but everytime i go i do a lot of damage in one hit, BUT, not today:T I bought the kids school shoes from clarks (Needed) DS2 coat (needed), some 99p t-shirts from m&s for ds1(not needed, but too good to leave there) and flowers and ribbons from claires for dd (not needed, but he ho)

I resited a top from the designer room that wold have fitted perfectly into my capsule:j.

Top drawer, how about dying and changing the buttons on the shirts?? You could even cut the collar off to change the look to make it more casual. Failing that why not ebay them?? Also have you tried layering the tops that are too cold?? What i do is buy the long sleeve t-shirts from primark to put under tops that are a bit to cool. Or you could put a polo neck or a funky scarf to make the gap up on your neck and keep you warm. HTH

  • Been shopping today, and managed To Resist all temptations!! I bought a hot water bottle & cover in primark, (£4.00) for me (needed) and a small day pack, (rucksack £6.00 half price) for my holiday next month.

I did spend some money on grandkids, (pjs, socks, gloves & hottie bottle) but resisted spending on me, so very happy.

top_drawer, love the shoes. Don't think they're "old" at all!

OK, I'm not really in on the challenge, but it's helping me keep myself in check.

Went out today to Primark to buy work jeans and found they were reduced from £10 to £6. would have had 3 pairs because they'll need washing all the time and will die quickly, but they only had one pair in my size.

Also in primark - warm flat boots for £8, needed since I am Mrs Coldfeet. Tempted to get some ugg style boots for the lab, but not sure about the non-slip properties of ugg boots, so am leaving them for now. -and two jumpers, school uniform dark green and blue, as I'm knocking two old ones down to lab wear. Although I'm having second thoughts and might take the jumpers back, instead asking the family or Mr Bex to buy me some nice woolen ones for Christmas...

Then I came home and looked up a cardigan I tried to buy yesterday but it wasn't in the shop. It's expensive, but the first nice thing I've had in aaaaaaaaaages so I didn't feel too bad about it. And again it's a replacement for shabby old rubbish. (shabby old one is new look 915 from when I was in that age range and will soon be replacing my dressing gown) Then, since I am coming over all MSE I checked quidco and found I could get 10% cashback on it. So while it was £80, it's only cost £72. not a bad saving for two minutes work.

The cardigan is on my approved list by the way! - other things on this list include a black mini skirt, long sleeved tshirts, socks to replace holey ones, pants because I don't have enough and bras because mine stopped being stretchy. A Grey jumper because mine shrank when my washine machine thermostat died and it boiled my lambswool jumper (grrrr!) and a smart black v neck jumper for not embarrassing Mr Bex.

Mr Bex on the other hand is naughty. Bought himself a (very sexy) new jumper yesterday. It's lambswool and cashmere so it was totally lovely, but it cost £90! And this is his "normal" clothes buying routine. It makes me feel a bit sick when he buys more than one thing at a time since (while my clothes are mostly about £5 each,) his clothes are always between 70 and 100!!

hope you've all had lovely lovely weekends :)
Do you need it? Yep. Really? Yes! How have you managed for the last 28 years without it? Erm....
    NO NAUGHTY SHOPPING Bex.
