One side of story. To be asked to be quiet and listen suggests that the OP was actually being loud and aggressive and had to be asked to restrain themselves. Or to put it another way, they were being ignorant and rude to the clerk.

Hmm, not so sure about that. Jumping to conclusions.

I've been a wittness to stucked up manager in the shop who was just full of himself and did it just to make sure not to get ANY reply out what so ever. Just stormed in and out.
There are people like that you know...

I agree we only have one side of the story. We can only advise/comment on the side of story we have. if it happened differently then it will be only the OP who will pay for it when they investigate and find out that his side is not the right side...
  • It is coming out now - basic account wanting upgrade!
There is always a reason why someone has a basic account and not one of them is good.

 What a daft thing to say.
I have basic bank accounts. But I don't need any more. Don't need an OD nor do I want one.
All I need my account to do is let me have my money paid in, let me pay out DD and SO's and let me have a cash card. Which they do!

Where are the no good reasons in that?

Oh dear! As soon as anyone dares to criticise the banks all the banks' fans leap to their defence.

I know this seems a trivial matter and maybe one not worth getting upset about, but I can understand the OP's point of view. I would be pretty narked if I had driven into town, paid to park the car, queued up in the bank and was then told I had to go through all the same palaver again tomorrow to pay in the last bag.

I understand that the former building societies might not have the same facilities as banks (although I thought they advertised themselves as banks nowadays) and I also understand about the room for storing coins and that banks have their T & Cs, but it is the pettiness of this rule which annoys people. It is a real jobsworth rule. He is paying hard-saved mony IN and is made to feel he is doing something wrong.

What would happen in the following scenario? I realise that I have a DD for £60 coming out tomorrow, but due to my salary being paid in late there is insufficient money in my account. So I raid my piggy bank and get £60 in 6 coin bags, drive to the bank and I am told I can only deposit £50. The DD bounces and the bank charge me £38 - great result for the bank.

There is no evidence at all that the OP was being loud or rude, quite the opposite from his version of events. The banks' supporters have just thrown in this red herring to try and make the OP look like the one at fault.

The main problem here is that those who I assume are past or present bank employees do not seem to understand how little things like this turn people off banks. I do not know anyone who has a good word for them.

Another old fashioned term I will throw in here is CUSTOMER SERVICE. :j Remember that, when banks and shops fell over themselves to make the customer happy in the attempt to keep their custom.

The trouble is everyone really needs a bank account and most people are too stuck in their ways to change banks so they stick with the same one even if the service is Sh&t, which it certainly seemed to be in this example.

Now I shall sit back and wait for all the flack - this is fun.:rotfl::rotfl:

There is enough to suggest that that the OP was being aggressive.

Nationwide are not a bank. Had they been a traditional bank then this thread would not exist as the banks take in cash.

What a petty comment. Sorry Dunstoh, but it is.
Bank bank bank bank bank bank

And by the way NatWest who ARE a bank didn't want to take change in either from my OH once.

And there is not enough evidence that the OP was aggresive at all.

And this thread exist because the bank (oh noooo... soryyyy... BS!!) couldn't deal with 1 extra bag for once!!

Bank bank bank bank bank bank

Its not petty and its key to this whole thread. Building societies and the ex building societies do not take in cash in large amounts. The traditional banks do.

Natwest do take in cash with no limits for existing customers as long as it is in the correct bags.
And there is not enough evidence that the OP was aggresive at all.

Yes there is. The clerk wouldnt just come out and be rude like that for no reason.

The situation is what I say it is because I say it is, and I am right therefore you must be wrong. Eh? Hm?

It wasn't large amount. And it was 1 extra bag for crying out loud!

Oh I see... but the customer just lushed out over the top for no reason, did he? There is as much evidence that the manager lushed out as there is that the customer lushed out.

    You are being ridiculous now.

I have never been employed by any bank or similar institution, but I placed the first reply in this thread and even that early,
I had the feeling the OP did come over as rather aggressive:
