Nationwide treated me like dirt for trying to pay money IN to my account

The manager should be sacked for having poor customer relation skills. End.
It doesnt matter what the issue was, it wasnt even big anyway. The fact is, know employee should be acting or speaking to any customer like that.
That being said, it only applies if what the op said is right and the issue wasnt that he was annoyed about a plicy which is in place and decided to try and fight it.
While I agree that the OP shouldn't have been rude to the counter staff and go against the BS policies I've been treated by a Nationwide manager like that.
In my case I couldn't do the transfer I wanted online or over the phone so was told over the phone that if I closed the account in a branch I could move the money into my current account.
The female manager:
1. Tried to interrogate me in front of a packed building society on why I couldn't do what I wanted online.
2. She then tried to patronise me about using computers. At no point did she ask my background instead she presumed that I didn't know how to use computers. As I work in the technical side of IT and had spent time on the phone already I stated I was not discussing the issue with her as I had discussed it at length already.
3. She then refused to do my request by saying I couldn't do it in the branch.
4. She also seemed to get upset when I refused to argue and refused to start shouting at her. I simply said fine I will check with the telephone service and come back.
I went to my home phoned Nationwide and to the branch twice more before she agreed to do it. And when she finally agreed to do it she asked me who authorised it!
Between talking to her, while I sat in the branch I noticed that she was patronising to the staff she managed. So in my complaint while I mentioned her name, I made clear that the other staff members who I had dealt with or had seen in action where not impolite and very helpful unlike her.
I have other bank accounts where the managers are male and female, and the last time someone spoke to me like that was at Natwest. They subsequently loss half my university courses current accounts due to their behaviour. Most of us went over to RBS.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Halifax is a bank but its an ex building society and still tends to work that way. They do not offer a full banking service. Co-operative is a bank but its not one of the traditional banks and I dont believe they offer full banking services. They have virtually no coverage in my region so I have little experience of them (only one branch in Norfolk and one branch in suffolk). The lack of branch coverage would suggest they dont offer full banking services but are more focused on direct provision.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. RBS and Yorkshire bank should be included in there too. Consolidations have reduced the numbers over the years.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). RBS and Yorkshire bank don't have as many branches.
I know because I have an RBS account and suffered greatly when paying in cheques when I moved to back to the SE. I had to get other people to pay them in for me as there were about 3 branches in the wider area I moved to and worked in. There as Barclays, LloydsTSB, NatWest or HSBC seem to have a branch about every 4/5 miles.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

RBS are more regional but both offer full banking services. The big four are Lloyds, HSBC, Barclays and Natwest.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Rules are for the guidance of wise men (and women) and the obediance of fools, obviously the OP encountered some fools. Not suprising really, there's plenty of them about, probably some at the Halifax too.
Although if it was me I would have merely spent the £20 elsewhere, without making a fuss about it.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
