She needs to realise that this isn't about her. The whole point of this is to avoid any fuss, I really don't want a pregnant bridesmaid!
but If my mum was getting married I'd be pretty pished off if she asked my sister to be a bridesmaid and not me.
It might cheer her up if you ask her to be a witness though?0 -
Thanks susan, clear, thoughtful and researched as ever, that's what I really like about you
(and other things too obviously!!)
Homebirth.org makes the case from research evidence that cord prolapse is the only baby-related complication in which it would be better to be in hospital. (because the course of action would be so different) - edit, although I completely get this wasn't the case for your mum, poor thing
So as a first timer I felt very reassured, since with a singleton pregnancy having gone beyond 37 weeks I was at almost nil risk.
It was further reassuring to know that at 2cm dilated only his scalp was palpable (ie no cord in the way), and his heartrate was fine since once you've begun to dilate a baby is so far down they can't pop back up again to let a bit of cord down IYSWIM?
Tine, I wasn't sure if you meant you wanted to find out more about HBs or if you are sure you wouldn't want one cos of alex's birth? Sorry I'm being thick I think it's the day I've had

hi everyone
hugs to Weezl - OH keeps leaving Jack on the bed and leaving the room! I'm trying to stop him cos before he knows it he'll roll off!
thanks for all the replies earlier - think I need to stop being so anal and fussy about things
anyway, MW came today and said massive difference in Jack's colour since yesterday and that I was looking fab and you wouldn't believe it was only 4 daysOh, and that she couldn't believe how quickly my uterus had contracted back!!! :jMust have been the RLT!!!
Tia - sugars?! Well, had the biggest bowl of fruit and ice-cream last nightand yes that was the pineapple that I bought last week to try and bring him on!!! Mum sent me some flowers and chocs so might make a start on the chocs later!
Just doing tea whilst Jack watches Daddy do weights  nothing changes!
Oh, anyone know how long ur supposed to wait to drive? I nipped to ASDA on Day 2 and MW gave me a right bollocking and yesterday I drove and neighbour who is a physio said I wasn't insured but i think that's cos she thinks I had a section
On the topic of hospitals, my bag was packed during my contractions whilst OH faffed about sorting himself out. It was about half packed already. I left my maternity pads in the car so MW who monitored me gave me a pack to take down to the ward while I waited for things to get going. They also provided
10 x Pampers in delivery suite
Cotton Wool
Formula (SMA or Cow & Gate)
Johnsons Baby Bath
When we were on the childrens ward I managed to blag 9 bottles of formula and a load of sterile syringes and pots for me to use for expressing (I only get a tiny bit and not worth using a bottle!!). .
I managed 5ml earlier but hadn't expressed for a while. Gonna change Jack in a bit, have tea and then give the pump a go again.
Oh and I've used all my minutes and texts this month - 2 more days til I get more so no phone for me!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -

Do you remember any of their names? it was one called Dianne that delivered Chris and the one that I had most of my apps with this time was Megan.0 -
I'm not having a go so sorry if you thought that?

Great idea, thank-you. She is being quite involved as well, she tends to like being the centre of attention. Quite unusual for DD2 to get a look in. Sisterly competition but they don't get that I love them both. :rolleyes:Too many children, too little time!!!0 -
hi glam!!
sorry to here Jack wasnt so well over the weekend but great that he doesnt need any treatment!!
i've panicked bit as well bout the clothes i bought. my mum kept saying buy 0-3 months so did. i've hardly any newborn stuff at all. my friends baby who was born yesterday was 7lb 8oz and has tiny clothes on...so i'm gonna buy some smaller sizes in asda tomorrow and leave in packageing/with tags on and if i dont need them i can bring them back. i have tried to pack the snaller clothes we have already. just hope its enough
ps Glam-- you need to update your sig'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
Problem with the "low risk" thing to me is I was 100% low risk as far as they were concerned - there was nothing to indicate there would be a problem at any point in my delivery. Not until the last stage was it found that madam was slightly rotated (hence the excrutiating pain! I wasn't just being a wuss!) and to be honest I don't know why she was in distress but she was... so was whipped out of there...
I just think that I could deal with if something happened in hospital where I would be close to medical help if needed - but the speed they had to get Alex out with (probably 5-10 mins from they pressed the emergency button till she was flopped on me!) means to me that the risk even with a seemingly normal and low risk mum is just too big...It's obviously horses for courses but I just don't understand being willing to take the risk with a babys life?
So much COULD go wrong... Why not be in a hospital where you can scream for more help if you need it (and in my case boy did I scream when delivering LOL)
I guess one way of looking at things is that say you have 100 people giving birth. Maybe if person 87 has a homebirth the baby would die but with a hospital birth the baby would live. On the other hand, if person 35 has a homebirth the baby will live but in hospital the baby will die. So regardless of whether they all have homebirths or all have hospital births, the neonatal mortality rate is the same (1 in 100). However, if you are person 87 and have a hospital birth then your experience is that your baby only survived because you were in hospital and therefore (quite reasonably) you conclude that the safest place to have babies is in hospital rather than at home. Does that make sense?Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5
