Bit of a TMI question, but when did you all start having 'relations' again after giving birth? Cailtyn's 8 weeks old today and to be honest I haven't even thought about it. DH hasn't mentioned it, but it's as if I've just 'forgotten' about that side of things and haven't felt remotely interested. I thought baby and I were supposed to have a 6 week check where they would ask me about contraception, but I've heard nothing. Spoke to a HV at baby group last week who said when Caitlyn has her jabs in a couple of weeks the HV will come out and measure/weigh her etc. She implied that they don't do a 6 week check

We don't get a 6 week check at my surgery either. I was called into see the GP with fergus at 8 weeks but that was for him. I thought it was a bit weird because all over the internet it's full of advice on things you can't do until the 6 week check. My brother (a GP) was really surprised when I told him all the things women aren't meant to do til after, and he said he never does anymore than just ask 'how's things with you since the birth?' very vaguely... and when she says fine, that's the end of the consultation!

His GF (also a GP) is more proactive and specifically asks about sex and does offer an internal.

So it seems to vary according to area and to doctor.

I didn't mind not having one, cos I knew things were all right and I don't like wasting NHS money. This is also why I don't want a HV, and would rather make contact IF I had problems with feeding/pnd/babies weight/colic etc...

About mums and labour. My parents were both staying at ours the night I went into labour. (well we figured it was ok cos no babies come on their due date-right?! :rotfl:)

My Dad got in a huff and said to OH- well I'm off, I'm not going to get any work done here! (he takes his lappy and work everywhere with him!) and my mum just stayed behind! I didn't want her to be near me in pain like you SB, so bless her, she just sat upstairs in our spare room the whole day til Fergus came at 3.37 pm!

She did try to come down at one point, but it unfortunately clashed with me being 8cm and being moved from the pool to a bed to have pethidine, so I had no water, no tens, no pethidine- and confronted with my mum in my kitchen... So apparently I just went 'oh no, oh no, oh no' all panicky and she just retreated again!

Bless her she must've been starving! I apologised afterwards, and said 'mum what were you DOING up there all day?!' and she said 'Oh I just layed there and prayed for you darling...'

    Awwwwwww :o:D funny old mum.

As soon as Fergie came out and DH had him for a cuddle, I did say, oh you have to go give him to grandma now :)

    Consternation in the Weezl house.

Fergie has piles and they bleed! Oh my poor baby he is broken! We knew his poos were infrequent and hard, and he never does them in a nappy (only twice when he's been with someone else and they haven't known what to do) we have to help them out. And sometimes it's been a bit worrying because (sorry TMI) his little rectum pops out with all the exertion of pushing so hard. We did ask the HV but they won't take action til 7 days and he'd always poo day 6 or 7, but only ever then, never sooner IYSWIM?

Anyhow, my assertive friend had been urging us to go to the GP, but I hate being a time waster and was trying to obey the no action til 7 days rule, thinking it was there for a reason. :( and now I feel like a rubbish mummy for not intervening because my beautiful baby has been in pain and now has bleeding from his rectum :(

    Onto different matters,
happy birthday MFD and happy hols :)

    Love weezl xxx

Poor Fergie, Weezl. I'm shocked the won't do anything before that! I used to go that long before the doctors gave me movicol to take when I hadn't been for a few days, and it is NOT nice, and it's very painful. Can lead to faecal impaction.

Isn't there some sort of laxative for babies? My friend Paul, had lactaloose from an early age and was still on it at age 10, as he was forever constipated.

Maybe your yummy prune yoghurt will help?

Well done to Christopher! Fancy lending me him to show Keira how to not judge food?

Bruno could you maybe 'sell' your mum coming round to OH by saying ur mum can help and support her with it?

I'm so proud of Christoph right now!

Thanks Sami, to an extent we've tried that but OH feels mum's baby-caring style is too at odds with hers for them to work "together" - she is ok in theory with mum taking Elijah for short periods but never gone further than an hour's walk for mum+baby so far, which given it takes my mum 75 mins each way to get here is a bit unfortunate. She is also ok with her babysitting while he sleeps though, which is good, so I'm using that as the leverage for my next strategy... it's not a big drama right now, just a little one!

Yay for Chris and his versatile eating :) must be very gratifying! Well done you :)
Elijah eats most everything we let him try at the moment, though he will e.g. leave avocado until there is nothing else left and then push it around for a while before reluctantly eating it :p I am a teeny bit anxious we're not getting enough veg into him - loads of fruit, not much veg.

Awwww Weezl :( if he was in really traumatic pain you'd have already known about it, don't worry too much. He will be ok, and HV/GP will take it seriously and there are loads of ways to make him better! And yes, :T for prune yogurt! It will be ok!
  • NMS, I 'see' you lurking :) how are things with you huni??

Just catching up from yesterday, I was sneaking on whilst I could cos the MIL was here. She arrived at 3:30 and didn't leave till 10ish  glad I went our cos she would have annoyed the hell out of me.

As for my promise last night... well didn't quite go to plan... first time after Alex we've actually REALLY managed to have a try at it and only to find that it's difficult fitting things as it were ;)
Hubby has always been generously gifted in that department (one of the reasons I married him :rotfl:) but now it soddingwell won't fit! GAAAAAH!
We'll give it another couple of go's this week then I'm going to the docs... (imagine the conversation: "Well doc - when they repaired me after the birth they probably thought they were being nice making stuff all "tight" again - but guess what....?")

So the T house is still without sex... I think it might actually be getting close to a year now since proper full blown relations... HOW i've stayed sane I do not know! We used to be rabbits!
