Out of curiosity, how often do you get your babies weighed??

Hardly ever :o They all looked like they were gaining weight and were eating well, so I wasn't that bothered about it. People used to ask what they weighed now, and then they'd look horrified because I didn't know :o

Don't go to Asda on a bank holiday. It was hellishly busy with dithery people who get in the way and people blocking aisles/shelves with trollies while they chat. The boys played up something rotten name calling and punching/kicking each other, and that set Charlotte off whinging. I've got a smock top on and she kept pulling that down and flashing my boobs to everyone. At the checkouts she had a tantrum as I had to give her bag of raisins to the lady to scan. Then we spent about 10 minutes waiting to get out of the car park as there was so many cars piling in. Joshua was fiddling with the air con and managed to get it stuck on the icy cold full blast setting and I couldn't turn it back off, so we all froze on the way home and my nipples could have put someones eye out. Managed to fix it when we got home thankfully.

Charlotte has gone for a nap now, and I've sent the boys to their room to write a essay on why you shouldn't misbehave in supermarkets. Having a cuppa and enjoying the peace
Here I go again on my own....

    Permission to be neurotic now?

Amber is 6lb14oz, with nappy, vest and tights on (nappy will be wet too, it's been on since 7.30am). That's 1oz less than birth weight and only a 4oz gain in 2 weeks, not even that, it's a long sleeved vest. (she was 6lb10oz naked on the 13th)

Been advised to wake her every 3 hours during the day for a feed, whether she wants one or not for weight gain and to try and get her to cluster feed during the day and sleep from 7-8pm at night. Don't wake her during the night, let her wake herself.

Typical that she wants a feed now, have to leave to get DS1 in 15mins and DS2 needs his nappy changed.

Ignore all the what you should and shouldn't be doing stuff for a minute. How do you feel? Do you think she's feeding well and is happy and looks healthy enough? I'm a firm believer that mother's instincts are far more valuable than what a book or HV states you must be doing. There's no "one size fits all" approach to babies. If you're happy enough with what you're doing, and she's not going to be harmed in anyway, then keep it up and stop fretting :)

She's only a few weeks old. Charlotte lost a lot when she was born and took a while to put it back on again. Also BF'ed babies put weight on slower than FF'ed babies so that's something to consider too.

I thought she had put weight on because she has gotten longer (sleepsuits are a little tight even taking into account, newborn curl up). I have been worried about how long she goes between feeds but I can't get her to wake up if I try too. And the routine at home doesn't allow for lots of feeding and expressing. I think I need to make a routine for daytime much as it goes against demand feeding.

    Right now I need too...

Have Amber dressed and fed for 8am
8am get boys dressed and fed
8.50am be in the car to drop off DS1 and then DS2
9.45am boys dropped off, I either go home or hang about the town
    12pm collect DS2
    12.20pm arrive home with DS2
2.45pm be headed out the door if walking to collect DS1
3.45pm arrive home from collecting DS1

speaking off... better go get DS1, (taking the car, pram still has punctures)

:rotfl: Beccles, you are so MEAN!

We made the mistake of going to Asda earlier too, it was crazy busy. We all escaped unharmed and still friends though, which is good going :)

I've not had time to catch up - not been busy with anything exciting, but DH has been hogging the computer ;) We went to the in-laws yesterday and Izzy had her first propper sunday roast. She particularly liked the roast potatoes. The parsnip was good for teething too :) I am trying to give her more finger foods now, but because she is so active she still has to have some purees, as with the solid stuff she doesn't actually EAT much of it, just plays with it. I've been giving her a bit of bread or something to [strike]play with[/strike]eat while I'm feeding her the puree, and then gradually she can have less puree and more solid stuff. This is the plan anyway.

Oh - we got the washing machine working again, it was just the fuse, so we don't have to use Granny's laundrette :)

Anyway, busy trying to contact the bank to find out why my account is locked. It is asking me for info i don't have and won't put me through to a human :(

  • Tia, that is a lot to cram it. I guess you need to work out when you can fit in feeds, and give baby a snack then even if she isn't starving, to tide her over until you've finished dropping off/fetching? Is there no way you could get one of the other mums to do one of the collections for you?

It's the other way round.. dungarees are Newborn (11lb) and top is Early Baby (7.5lb).. Did you wonder why Ed grew out of them amazingly quickly? ;):p

DIY finished for today. OH has painted the outside of the house (always was white, just needed to paint the new render on the bay window) and M&D have painted the bedroom. Will be finished next weekend then will get the carpets fitted. Dad's at work for the rest of this week then off for two - first one he's helping us with the finishing touches then the second they're going away for the week. Think he'll be damn ready for that holiday! :o

I'm debating going into town tomorrow.. Is that a silly idea with it being the last/second to last day of the school hols?:o
