I don't mind people not liking it but I was starting to feel like no-one liked it and had a mini panic that he'd get bullied at school n stuff :o
I think it's worse because people tend to ask Chris what his brother is called so they then have trouble understanding him because its not a common name they don't think of it from him saying "thayts Egg-ier" IYSWIM

Anyone ever iced a cake themself?
I'm thinking of doing Eds myself but that's the only bit I've not done before, I usually just do buttercream topping but I want it to look 'proper'

I can do proper royal icing. I've done umpteen Christmas cakes and I baked and iced my own wedding cake.

You need to get the marzipan perfect as any dints in it will show up in the icing. Then you need to put a thin coat of icing on the top and there's a knack to applying it and pulling it straight with a special ruler. Leave to dry overnight. Put a layer of icing on the sides, pulling is straight with a spreader tool. Leave to dry overnight. Repeat each bit until you get 3-4 layers on the top and sides. Then make some stiffer royal icing to pipe curls or whatever on, and add decorations. I made a floral corsage for the top of my wedding cake which took days to make too.

Takes a long time, lots of patience and a bit of skill. If you're up to a challenge though...... :D

Just booked a holiday today. Off to Turkey again next year :j
Here I go again on my own....

I really like the name edgar, sami :)

DH worries a bit that 'fergus' might become 'fungus the bogeyman' to horrid school mates. My plan is to buy him the book before school and big up the character of fungus, so even if they call him that, he'll just say 'oh I have that book, it's cool!' :)

Sorry not been on much since mum got here :) there is so much to do that I can do because I don't have a munchkin attached 24/7 :D Have picked beetroot and boiled them and pickled 2 jars and have a chocolate cake cooling as we speak :D Made endless muffins and did some shopping and had loads of naps! :)
DH is cooking dinner (cider pork something or other - I didn't ask - after all anything I don't have to cook is great!) - I have loads to do in the kitchen in the next day or two - a bunch of runner beans need making into chutney I think, and have some spinach and chard too that I need to cook and freeze... Am thinking of making some beetroot cubes for Alex for when we really start the weaning :) At least they'll be homegrown and 100% organic :D
Have been offered some strawberry plants and rasberry canes from a kind person on freecycle so that's ace! Need to go and dig them up at some point :)

So... loads going on :) including marathon muffin cooking lol

Sami - I like the name Edgar, it makes me automatically think of Edgar Allan Poe:)

That name site, cam up that both Kai and Luca are average 2yrs old and Luca average 3yrs old....I came up as 31yrs old, which isn't far off!

My little monkey seems to have decided to drop his after dinner nap. He would usually have a shorty about 4.30/5pm but the last two days (3 inc today) he has decided not to have one, which is a bit of a pain because I had managed to move his bedtime back to about 8pm but now he is falling asleep by 7pm so I am trying to feed a half asleep baby and get him into bed as soon as fed. Oh well, if that's what he wants to do I will just go with it for now, maybe he will start to have a longer afternoon nap instead of his usual half hour one and then will go till 7.30pm:)

I have a bit of a dilemma....Once we are both at Uni the kids will be entitled to free school meals, BUT ALL their friends have pack lunches. I personally would love them to have a nice warm meal for lunch especially in the winter, and being free is even better, will save me a bit of money:) Anyway being that the kids friends have packed lunches they are both complaining because I have said they will go hot lunches from October onwards...what do you reckon, should I 'force' them to have hot lunches or just leave them having packs, like they have always had???
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.
