We do kinda... as in we have individual accounts and such - but if one of us runs out of money there is no "his and hers"... For obvious reasons I run out a lot quicker now than I used to (50% pay atm) so Hubby subs me :) But we've finally got a joint account so need to gradually move over bills etc to that :)

That is pretty much what we do. Didn't get a joint account when we married, because I was under 18 at the time. My benefits get paid to my account, OHs wages to his. He transfers a bit to me (£100 a month usually) to top me up, and gives me more as and when I need it. It is all shared money, just stored in two places.

Oh, and I'm poorly. Got some sort of tummy bug, although feel alright, it just awful symptoms! Fingers crossed baby doesn't get it.

    Afternoon all..

I've had a nice afternoon - on my own  Rhys and Grandma also had a nice afternoon which is good too obviously! :D Hygenist says my teeth are absolutely fine so must have been a blip whilst pregnant. I've opened a new current account and linked savings account, changed my address (two years since I moved in here!) with my other banks, picked up the forms for CTF and children's savings account and the forms to change the addresses on our driving licences :)

As for our budgets, we both put £250 a month into a current account in my name from which all the bills and food shopping come out of (can't have a joint account due to OH's dodgy credit history). What's left on our accounts then is our own. OH's is spent on the mortgage (the house is his, not mine/ours), his debt repayments and a few online game subscriptions, plus petrol/car insurance/tax/MOT and his mobile bill. Mine is spent on car costs and mobile bill then just anything else I fancy  I used to have about £800 fun money left but now on SMP I'm down to £150-ish. Hasn't caused a problem yet as my petrol costs are a lot lower (only filled my car up once in the last six weeks and I've still got over half a tank left!).

ETA: OH is left with nothing at the end of each month and sometimes has to accept the offer of a sub - he won't ask for it, but I ask him every month if he needs anything else and if he wants me to transfer him some extra, when I'll transfer what he needs plus £10-20 more. He's okay with that cos he treats it as a lesson he was silly to get into debt and he won't do it again ;)

My money management is all over the place at the minute as I've been buying things for the house and for Rhys out of my account when it should have been the joint one etc, but I intend to change all that from 1st Sept now that I have these extra few accounts set up. That's my job for before the weekend - make sure all the money is in the right place to start the new month afresh.. need to transfer the child benefit and tax credits money out of mine and into Rhys' etc.

I work every day with spreadsheets - I have in fact had jobs in the past where I was employed solely due to my skill with spreadsheets! - and yet nowadays, I can't be bothered to use them for my own benefit  I am very bad.

I did do budgeting/debt spreadsheets when I had debt and needed to clear it, luckily I don't nowadays (although I would quite like a mortgage!)
I understand, I used to spend all day staring at one of 3 spreadsheets, The last thing I wanted was to come home a do more:p

re: teching LO for school. My sister is a teacher and says that the most important preparation for school is not necessarily alphabet and numbers. It's more practically helpful if they can dress/undress themselves (for P.E.), recognise their name written down, hold a pen/pencil, tie laces (or do up their own shoes if velcro etc), use cutlery if they are going to have school dinners and things like that. Those are the things schools don't have time to teach - the teachers can teach the rest ;)
I asked my mum (higher level teaching assistant specialising in literacy or HLTA, SLTA for short :)) what Chris needed to know before school at she basically said that ^^ plus manners and Ideally be able to read/write their own 1st name, be able to count 1-10 (thats actually count objects not just know how to say them) and the alphabet sounds so a is 'ah' not Ay IYKWIM
If you want some help knowing the sounds and helping her to know them Sparklebox is a good place.
Also reading her a bedtime story will help :)
most of all make sure reading is fun by doing silly voices etc

I think its Maz that is a teacher, she has a LO called Henry doesn't she??

oh and my OH deals with bills, I get 'housekeeping' which is spent on my pension and mobile phone bill, the grocery shop and all the random stuff I buy like clothes for all of us.
I'm happy with this as I'm crap wit being restrained!:o
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

I'm like you Bruno, I'm in control of finances but only because it would drive me mad not knowing what was happening with them... Hubby transfers enough money to cover the bills into my account when he gets paid.. What's left (about £250) is his to get his bus pass then spend as he likes (it's usually gone within a week!) then tax credits, child benefit and a small amount of csa for Aimee go into my account and get spent on anything and everything... We're not by any means well off, but by the same token, we're not struggling and that's what matters to me...

Took Caitlyn swimming for the first time... We went in the Brine baths because they're always warmer and she really enjoyed it...We were in there a good 45 mins before she started to whinge, then as soon as I got her out she fell asleep in her towel! Also completely forgot about the cable guy coming lmao!! Luckily he rang my mobile and we were litterally around the corner so he hung around for 3mins for me... All he needed to do was tighten the connection and he was done... But he made me a shorter wire so we can move the modem from under the stairs and don't need wire trailing all around the room and over the door frames...

Must go and put some savoury rice on (approved foods bargain) hubby's on his way back with a cooked chicken :D
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

'Savings'? What are these 'savings' you talk of?!

We have two joint current accounts. One for the DDs which we transfer the right amount of money into each month so nothing ever bounces. The other has what's left, which isn't much! We live realtively well but don't go out much and certainly don't have an allowance each month. Pretty much everything we spend we do jointly. Although we allow ourselves £50 between us each week for incidentals. Food and all other things go on a cashback CC. We get about £200 back each year, which is a nice Jan bonus!

I figure we can afford to pay everything we need to and aren't in debt, so the fact we don't have savings isn't a major issue. We manage a foreign hol each year (except this one :-( ) but have to wait to buy some things. For e.g. this month we have bought the bathroom cabinet for our en-suite. It's only been built since December! Next month will be a new bannister, we don't currently have one. Then it'll be Xmas pressies etc etc.

With regards to finances, with 8 to feed, I can only let you guess as to how much we spend on groceries. Please don't guess though :p

Fun money? I have Sky TV & the Internet....the rest of the fun money goes on the girls or into their accounts, or into my savings pot which is saved for things like the girls, anything in the house that needs replacing or the cats bills, should any arise. Doesn't sound too exciting does it? I do however get immense joy from buying things for the girls and we do have a Wii, although I never have a go without the girls around. I'm not really a gaming kind of guy, at least not since I was about 18 :o About half my life ago now :o I don't drink, smoke or order takeaways, go to shows, gigs, concerts, have an expensive mobile phone or any major gadgets, waste money on knee jerk purchases. So my fun money is around £32 a month. I'm sure there is something I haven't thought of, but friends always tell me off for not treating myself  They think I spoil the girls. They don't realise my girls appreciate everything and that's enough for me to be happy. I don't need anything else. :D

I'm quite dull really :D But I want my girls to have the best, so I save save save, which this site helps me with.

The extra money that hopefully we'll be entitled too, from the tax credits, will likely go the same way, but we shall spend some on some days out as a family. Maybe that trip to Butlins is nearer than we thought. That and an even better Christmas.

I don't use spreadsheets, just my head and some pieces of paper :D My Mathematical brain comes into use sometimes :p

I hope we all have had a good day so far and if I remember correctly, a Birthday for Caz's daughter today (she did say Tuesday right?) :D Happy Birthday to Caz's daughter :j

OMG - his whining is getting on my nerves today (because i'm tired) I know he isn't meaning to be grumpy and he is usually such a happy baby, he's constipated the poor mite! I have noticed over the last few days his poops getting more solid I have tried and tried to get him to drink more water, but he just spits it out...so today I get some baby juice and he drank nearly half a cup of it...resulting in two big stinky nappies. They took a lot of grunting and going red, but the second was a lot easier....so I am going to see if I can get half a cup of it in him tomorrow too, hopefully that will sort him out:) I didn't really want him to go on juice but, oh well!! I will just try to limit it to meal times.

I feel so torn at the moment, I am so desperate to have another baby (grumpy bum today hasn't even put me off) But feel so guilty as dh really doesn't want anymore (yet?) He is finding things hard at the moment as it is......should I relent and just be patient? But it will probably mean I never have another baby as his degree course is 4yrs long - ds1 will be virtually 13, ds2 will be virtually 11 and ds3 will be not too far off 5yrs when he finishes!! I will be very nearly 35yrs, not to mention he will be 42! I can't really se myself having any at that late(ish) stage with children that old...of course I may feel completely different when the time comes, I am just going on how I feel now.
    BUT
If I do have one pretty soon it could mess up his degree completely and he will probably never forgive me, but I would have what I want. Am I being selfish....please help me as I am doing my own head in now!!!!!

Please be honest...ie. Yes you are a selfish cow, you already have three kids etc etc etc
