hi all, just reviewing my budget spreadsheet.

How much 'fun money' do you guys budget for each month for you and DH? For entertainment, hobby spends, drinks and food out, books and magazines... that kinda thing. I guess it's like the grown up equivalent of pocket money- all non-essential fun spends.:D

TIA for any answers, Love Weezl xxx

I also had afterpains and Aaron is my first, and I was given co-dydramol and diclofenac (even though I lost a lot of blood and had severe anaemia, just seen that was a reason they DIDN'T give you diclofenac Tia!!) at the hospital and to take home with me and it was 4 weeks before I could stop taking any of them, then lowered the doses and came off completely about 7 weeks.
No-one told me though that they could cause problems with breastfeeding as what the baby gets through the milk can cause respiratory problems with prolonged use, and the doctor said I shouldn't have taken them for that long. Even though everytime I saw a doctor, midwife or health visitor I always told them that I was still on the tablets for the pain.

We have £200 each per month, this is for everything you mentioned plus haircuts, prescriptions (not me anymore until the card runs out!), birthday cards/gifts for friends and family, basically anything that isn't a household outgoing. OH goes through his every month, but I manage to save a lot of mine for bigger treats for myself when I want, I am just better at unecessary spending than him.
Although, now I am only receiving MA and OH's hours have been cut at work, we will most likely be lowering this to £100-150 per month until things pick up.

    hello ladies!
had to laugh as when i woke abi up this morning the first things she said was guess what mum im 4!!!! her pram still hasnt arrived:( so we are patiently waiting and hoping it comes soon! i also went to pick up her doll and they werent in stock! asked when they would be back in and there was one coming in this aft so have reserved and my sister is picking up while the babies have a nap.

you have also reminded me about tax credits as i told them i would be working 24 hours p/w and am now going to be doing 30 and have been told this will make a difference? so i need to phone them and update.

oh i looked at the pics of the new baby and he is so tiny! sending them all my love and best wishes
What's for you won't go past you
  • Weezl. tbh I don't know at the mo as we have to sort out our budget again. While I've been on maternity I've been letting myself have about £80, which has mostly just paid for parking, coffees etc when we've been to mummy events, plus a few clothes where I don't fit into my old ones any more. DH has been spending ... severely more than he ~should~ have been, so now he doesn't get to take his debit card with him when he goes to the pub. (He has a fruit machine problem, so if he puts credit card behind the bar at least even if he does go overboard he is still limited to how much he can drink ;) ).

If I wanted to push the issue I would see about getting him some help for it, as this has been a problem on and off since we met. He gets himself in control of it for a while, then he gets stressed, and I start seeing the £20 then another £20, then another £20 etc pattern show up on the bank statements. He once spent practically my entire terms student loan in about 3 weeks. Good thing for him that I love him really, or he would be missing a few body parts ;)

Had a long talk about it last week though, he said he knows he is being selfish and it has to stop, and he doesn't want to be taking food out of babies mouth, so we will see.

ladybird, sounds like my OH a bit, i had to put it to him in terms of baby things so he could understand how much he was wasting on the fruit machines and online gambling. He is in control most of the time but like yours it returns every now and then and i'd see £20 regularly on the bank statements. i would remind him that could be going into my maternity leave fund so i can have more time off, like he wants me to if we can afford it. good thing is he said to me he needs to stop and what can he do so we unregistered him from all the sites and he limits what he puts in a fruit machine, say £5 and no more, not even if he's 'nearly getting somewhere'!

Oh that seat looks good Scruffy, much better than the plastic thing I was imagining they were like (Like the little plastic seat you get at the back of a kids bicycle) thats what I thought they'd be like! Haha.

That ends in 5days so I'll keep an eye on it!
