eczema and asthma are usually found in children with a family history of it and not because they were weaned early, my children have asthma and it is due to both my side and OH side having it. i think a lot is scare mongering and if you done everything by the book then we would all be bleerey eyed and misrable lol!
erin has just turned 6 months and there is no way that she could have lasted this long before getting solids, she is a big girl and IMO she needed fed earlier, i dont regret it and if she does develop asthma then it will be down to family history not due to her having solids a few weeks early?
Interesting as I had childhood astma - I grew out of it before I was 10 - but it was hardly surprising that I got it... mum, dad, stepdad, nan and granddad all smoked like chimneys... It's only a wonder I outgrew it! As no-one is allowed to smoke round Alexandra then I hope to have minimised the chance of her getting it too
There are no major allergies in either mine or DHs families (I say major... My dad devoloped an allergy to ibuprofen late in life (50+), my hubby has developed an allergy towards certain AntiBiotics and I was sensitive to tomatos as a child if they came into contact with the skin round my face...) so again I'm not actually hugely concerned about allergies...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! But they used to do it all the time...
Having just started weaning Benjamin even Baby Rice has a massive effect on their digestive system....Mel weaned early, although not as early as 13 weeks, she may be able to give you a different perspective.
Speak to someone before you do anything - maybe the nurse next door?
Yep, I weaned early and at 13wks I was fairly tempted but kept holding out a day at a time....I thought the longer he went on just milk the better...don't think, right no food till x wks or you will find yourself stressed. Best thing I found was thinking right I will wait till midweek then see how he is, then when wednesday came around I just though to myself, right I will see how things go until the weekend.
I waited until he was nearly 15 wks then just tried him with a teeny tiny amount of baby rice. I went with baby rice first off because you can effectively make it up with mainly milk and just a bit of rice powder, so it just seems like thick milk iygwim.... That way it is easier on their system
I am all for weaning early if they NEED it, but I do think the longer you can wait and the nearer to 17wks the better:D
The mum I met up with a couple of weeks ago had been trying to give her baby girl food since 7 weeks old, she had also been giving her gripe water from birth, and at 10 wks old (which she was when we met up) had even been givving her terry's chocolate orange to suck on:eek:
ETA I Formula fed and weaned both my other two at 15wks and they have no allergies are not overweight and ds1 is extremely brightUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

You do what you feel is best for your baby.
I left it until 6m as I didn't feel the need to earlier. They both really enjoyed their milk and slept through from very early on. Having read into the benefits of later rather than sooner I decided on the former (even though they were both big babies!).

Also - we used to sit Benjamin in his high chair whilst we ate dinner and give him a whole peeled raw carrot to play with and suck on - that way he was getting a taste and joining in but there was no way he could actually eat any of it. Recommended on the BLW course I went on.
I think I might try the carrot - thanks
And I might have seen the BLW guide - but uhmm... I never read it because I was SURE that it wouldn't be relevant till Alexandra was at least 6 months :rotfl: It could just seem that maybe she doesn't agree! :rotfl:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Very strange waking up to a house without any children but we did a little DIY (its still a work in progress and we're still nowhere near finished! DH's family are the type to get a 'man in that can' but my family have always done things themselves so he has a lot to learn). Babies loved being with Nanna, Grandad and my sisters and both slept through.
Just started watching season 1 of Ghost Whisperer and I think I might just love it!.
xx
My family 'do it themselves' hubby finds a 'man that can' and pays him...
....I ask my daddy to do it - he loves being useful
I still miss youplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
I know! I know! I know! (but still ask the consultant and let me know if I'm actually right or not!) Babies build up their iron stores more in the third trimester so if they missed that bit out they might not have enough to last until six months!
Ahhhh.. I see!! Thankyou
Rhys is on liquid iron and also jabs to stimulate his bone marrow to make more red blood cells - his kidneys should send the signals but they don't or at least not well enough (the same ones atheletes use to give them extra oxygen carrying power) so I guess that'll make up for it so we won't need to do extra early weaning, but I'll ask
Other question of course is "what on earth is "early" for a 9wk prem baby?!" - we've have quite enough early-ness, thankyou!
anyone for a chocolate brownie????
Don't tell me you've had time to bake as well?! :eek:0 -

OK just wanna make clear that it's NOT Terry's chocolate orange - IT'S MINE! No way you'd ever get me to share one... probably not even with Alex
I might get the rice and do as you did - day at a time and see how we get on... I am sure the longer she goes the better but she seemed incredibly focused on hubby's dinner earlier and was trying to stuff his hand in her mouth after he'd eaten the bread that was in it... she seemed incredibly determined to get to whatever that thing was that dad was putting in his mouth...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! has been doing since Benjamin was about 6 weeks :rotfl:
Ds1 was actually trying to give baby a walkers crisp the other day:eek: I explained that it would choke him and when he is allowed crisps it will be wotsits/quavers/skips only...because they dissolve in his mouth. now every day at lunch he asks - have we got the quavers yet:rotfl:Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

mrs t abi gets that redness when she eats toms or tom sauce, doc said not to worry bout it lol! the hospital told me that asthma can be outgrown and that if you have outgrown it by 7 then you will probably not be affected again? not sure if this is the case but heres hoping! i can say though that since moving from a town to a village that the kids have not needed inhalors/antibiotics/steriods in the year we have stayed here(well not for asthma but other illnesses) before we would have had at least 6 antibiotic courses and possibly 3 courses of steriods! What's for you won't go past you0
