Ryanair drops routes out of Manchester

I think this is all one big bluff.
I think that Ryanair had to do some cost cutting becuase the current climate and the state of their finances dictated it.
Now then,they wouldnt want to fess up publicly to that as it could damage their reputation.
So what did they do? Invent some harem scarem tale of hard negotiations with Manchester airport.
Man airport says that they afforded Ryanair one of the lowest ladning fees possible and could go no lower. Why should they? anyway other airlines such as Jet2 will fill the slots.
Ryanair are being disingenuous with this made up story. Truth is they HAD to cut costs. They just didnt want to fess up.
Most of your posts are based are what you think, but can you actually back it up with fact?

Manchester Airport called Ryanair's bluff and didn't allow themselves to be bullied with Ryanair's measly offer of one extra plane for the season

6 months to go before the latest edition of the definitve text book on airline costs comes out and things may well have changed but certainly back in the 90's it was more expensive to land a plane off-peak at Manchester airport than it was to land the same plane (with same load factor) at peak times at Heathrow ...in fact Manchester was the most expensive airport in the world listed!!!
Now landing costs are only part of the costs associated with flying to/from Manchester but it surprised me more that they used Manchester in the first place than it does to see them move elsewhere.
Isn't that based on published charges and fees though? The difference between published charges and fees, and what the airlines who have regular schedules and based aircraft manage to negotiate with an airport operator in their contracts are often huge.
A few years ago Birmingham Airport was named 4th most expensive airport in the world to land a 747 at. But in relaity I doubt it is.0 -

Firstly, remeber that what I wrote was relevant quite a few years ago, the aircaft industry and changed dramatically since the last version of the "bible"
Anyway, dug out the book and I quote:
"for the world's airlines as a whole, user charges that is airpot charges and en route charges) account for just over 5% of their total costs. The proportion rises for international airlines operating relativel short sectors , where landing occur more frequently. British Midland found their airport and en-route costs were 20% of their total costs.
User charges, like wage costs and fuel costs are largely externally determined. User charges give little room for manoueuver. While the airlines as a whole acting through IATA may try and hold down increases in landing fees and individual airline has no scope for negotiating better rates for itself. All are in the same boat.

But Olympic have had to pay millions back in fines because they and the government contravened the Chicago convention.
Anyway has anyone heard about the matter in hand ie the cancelling of the man flights and what ryanair are offering as alternatives?0 -
i had flights booked from manchester, i called ryanair today (at my expense of course). the operator said my flight (brussels) wasnt going to be moved to another airport so the only option was a full refund in about 10 ten days or so. end of conversation.
ryanair havent botheres to contact me yet, good job i heard this story on the news as i`ve already paid for hotels.
i think its completely a "s** you" attitude from ryanair, guess you get what you pay for but i wouldnt treat people like that.
anyway, i`d advise anyone unsure to contact ryanair as the flight wont always be re-routed, & if it was chances are it`ll be different days.0 -
I too have flights booked from Manchester to Bremen going out on 30th September (Not a problem) returning to Manchester 4th October (problem). I havent received any kind of notification yet but looking on the RyanAir website most flights have been transferred to Liverpool but a day later. I rang RyanAir on Friday and they told me I could only transfer the flights and pay additional charges and that I couldnt claim a refund as I didnt take out insurance!) Anyway will see what happens today when I phone again.total debt at LBM £4800
