I am stuck in a situation that I have created Spud. I know I do far too much for everyone in this house but something has to change especially when I get back to work in Sept.

I am trying to make small changes like putting their clothes on their beds for them to put away themselves but I cook every meal and wash up every dish, do all the laundry and organise pretty much everything.

I know that its me that needs to change.......ashamed of myself:o

Ahh I see. I agree time for a change, especially with the additional responsibility at work coming up for you.

I'm lucky that mine have always wanted to help. DD cleaned the downstairs loo the other day, then spent the rest of the day moaning whenever any of us used it

We've just recently broached the subject of regular chores in return for pocket money (neither get any at the moment) and they both seemed keen. DD would like a paper round, but DH said no way.

Maybe you should put the dirty dishes on the beds, they might do them then ;)

Spud....both my girls benefited from getting regular pocket money. Up until that point I just gave them money whenever they asked (and they didn't ask a majorly amount) but it was easier to transfer £40 per month into their own bank account to do with what they wanted. It sounded a lot but they had to earn it and they had to buy their own clothes out of it. It certainly focused what they spent their money on and gave them a sense of value...

Although I don't see whats wrong with a paper round...

Could you start with one thing at a time perhaps - so say to boys from now on you are responsible for X and if it doesnt get done I dont do Y...

Men are very target orientated so if you incentivise it with and if you do X for X weeks you get a CD/treat/day out etc...

Depends how bribable they are I guess...

DH doesnt think it's safe Sammy - maybe a Saturday shop job when she's old enough, but he doesnt want her walking the streets early morning/evening.

We'll definitely sort them out their own chores. DD LOVES cleaning, DS will find it harder.

I sent them out earlier to get some fresh air. They came home a few minutes ago excited that they'd found loads of blackberries and rasberries - DS was keen to point out it's free food. They've just grabbed some bags and gone for more :D

Also I wonder if with hubby you could do it together so he washes and you dry or something like that and you can talk about your respective days then and catch up..?

Sets a good example then for the boys :D
